What does daily care for infants and young children include?

Nowadays, many young couples are working alone outside to build their careers. Due to lack of life experience, young couples will encounter many problems in the process of raising their babies. For example, they don’t know how to add complementary food to the baby, how to do a good job of skin care for the baby, etc. It is precisely because of the lack of knowledge in this area that the baby often shows some symptoms. Let’s learn more about the daily care knowledge of infants and young children.

Daily care for infants and young children:

1. Common issues in communication with doctors

For infants and young children aged 1 to 2 years old, parents need to pay attention to the following aspects when communicating with doctors:

(1) Measure your child’s height, weight, and head circumference, and plot a growth chart. Keep updating this chart so you can easily see your child’s development. The physical exam also checks your child's eyes, heart and lungs, ears, abdomen, hands, and feet. The doctor will also look at the condition of your child's primary teeth and the inside of his or her mouth.

(2) Check the child’s physical and mental growth. The doctor will look at the child’s external manifestations and the parents’ follow-up records. Doctors will ask parents questions like: Has the child learned and mastered walking? Are you aware of your own name? Can the child follow some simple instructions at the age of 2? Can you say some words? When you are 2 years old, can you simply connect two words together?

(3) The doctor will also ask questions about safety, such as: raising experience and family situation.

(4) Discussions about children’s diet, such as: How much does the baby eat? What are the foods you like and don’t like? What tableware do you usually use? Will feeding bottles hinder my baby's tooth development? Which foods and drinks are more likely to cause tooth decay? Where are the food restricted areas? Any allergic reaction?

(5) What advice do parents need from the doctor in the next few months?

(6) Questions regarding vaccination.

2. Vaccines for infants and young children

Babies need to receive more vaccinations before they are two years old, especially within 15 months. The following should be injected:

(1) Haemophilus influenzae type 4b

(2) Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines

(3) Varicella vaccine

(4) Fourth Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine

Babies need to be vaccinated within 18 months:

(1) Diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine

(2) Third Hepatitis B Vaccine

(3) Third polio vaccine

3. When should you contact a doctor urgently?

If your child is particularly slow to respond or irritable, has severe sleeping problems, refuses all food or liquids, or has developmental delays, you should take your baby to see a doctor.

In addition, 2-year-olds will achieve the following developmental progress:

(1) Walking by yourself

(2) Able to speak about 15 words continuously

(3) Put two words together to form a sentence

(4) Follow simple directions

(5) Imitative behavior

(6) Push and pull toys

Parents should also note that if a child has developmental delays, they should consult a doctor, but this does not necessarily mean that there is a problem.
