Professor Chen Yourong, executive director of the Lactic Acid Bacteria Branch of the Chinese Society of Food Science and Technology, said that not all yogurt products contain sufficient numbers of active probiotics, and not all probiotics have been proven to promote gastrointestinal health. Good probiotic strains, bacterial survival, and sufficient numbers of active bacteria should be the three major standards for high-quality probiotic yogurt. A good strain should be safe, active, and have clinically proven efficacy. The survival of bacteria is the key to ensuring that probiotics can resist gastric acid and bile and eventually reach the intestines. As for the number of active bacteria, the foreign standard is 107, and the domestic requirement is 106. It should be emphasized that not every strain of probiotics can exert all health benefits.

It is worth mentioning that foreign probiotic strains are not necessarily suitable for the physiological characteristics of our Chinese population. From the perspectives of physiology, human microecology, and reproductive evolution, humans and probiotics must adapt to each other in terms of species, flora, and environment. Therefore, when choosing probiotics, you must choose according to your physical condition. It does not mean that one is best and the other is bad.
