What are the dangers of nasal vestibule cyst?

Vestibular cyst is a common nasal disease. The incidence rate has been increasing, so it is very worrying. The disease is more common in women between the ages of 30 and 50. There are no symptoms at the beginning, so patients are not aware of the disease. The cyst grows relatively slowly and there is a feeling of expansion. So, what are the dangers of nasal vestibule cyst? Let me introduce it to you now.

The cyst is located under the skin at the bottom of the nasal vestibule and in the soft tissue superficial to the alveolar process of the maxillary bone. It grows slowly and is usually asymptomatic in the early stages. As the cyst grows larger, a bulge will appear at the attachment point of one side of the nose wing, inside the nasal vestibule, or in front of and outside the edge of the piriform aperture. There is a local feeling of swelling. If secondary infection occurs, the swelling may increase and cause pain. Local examination and palpation of the oral and nasal vestibules with two fingers can aid in the diagnosis. Treatment is surgical resection.

There are no subjective symptoms in the early stage. As the cyst grows bigger, the attachment point of one side of the nose wing, the inside of the nasal vestibule, or the anterior and lateral side of the piriform aperture will gradually bulge. If the cyst is large, breathing may be obstructed in the nasal cavity on the same side, and there may be swelling inside the nose or on the upper lip. An elastic and soft lump can be felt at the raised area where the nose wing is attached. If combined with infection, the cyst will rapidly enlarge and cause obvious local pain.

Complications of infection may cause general discomfort, fever, headache, and local redness, swelling, and pain. Ocular manifestations are caused by cyst invasion into the orbit. It causes eye displacement, tearing, diplopia, visual impairment, etc.

Vestibular cyst is a type of facial cleft cyst. The so-called facial cleft cyst refers to various congenital cysts that occur in the soft tissue, bone tissue or bone foramen of the nose and around the nose. There are currently two main theories about the cause of its occurrence: the glandular retention theory and the facial cleft theory, with the latter being the dominant one.

If the cyst is large and the patient has facial deformity and nasal congestion symptoms or a history of recurrent infection, surgical removal should be performed via the labiogingival sulcus approach.

Surgical method: Make a transverse incision on the side of the cyst close to the frenulum of the upper lip, separate the soft tissue toward the piriform foramen, expose the cyst wall, and then carefully separate and completely remove it. If the cyst wall is tightly adhered to the nasal vestibule skin, the principle should still be to completely remove the cyst wall. It is inevitable to tear the skin of the nasal vestibule during the operation. The treatment method is to compress the area with Vaseline gauze after the operation and wait for the granulation tissue to repair day by day.

After the operation, you should always keep your oral cavity clean and hygienic, brush your teeth after each meal, pay attention to protecting the wound surface, do not let it be damaged and cause tearing, eat more nutritious food, and mainly liquid food at the beginning. If it hurts, you can take some painkillers, don't worry. Do not eat spicy, raw or cold food, and do not smoke or drink, as these are not good for your condition.
