Is vitamin b1 effective in repelling mosquitoes?

Is vitamin b1 effective in repelling mosquitoes?

Vitamin B1 is a common medicine for us. Generally, we use vitamin B1 to supplement the elements that the body lacks. However, vitamin B1 can also play a corresponding role when various skin and mucous membrane tissues are damaged. There is a saying in life that vitamin B1 can repel mosquitoes. In fact, this has no scientific basis. Although vitamin B1 has a relatively unpleasant smell, it will not have any effect on mosquitoes.

Vitamin B1 has a very disgusting taste, smells slightly foul and tastes bitter. Humans don't like the smell, and mosquitoes probably don't like it either. Sadly, mosquitoes don't buy into this at all. Although vitamin B1 is highly water-soluble, it is not stable in water, is afraid of heat, and is easily decomposed by light.

Dissolving vitamin B1 in water and spraying it is even more unreliable. It is worth reminding that the human body's daily requirement for vitamin B1 is 1 to 1.5 mg. Meat, beans, and nuts are rich in vitamin B1 and generally no additional supplement is needed. The various vitamin B1 mosquito repellent formulas circulating on the Internet contain dosages that are close to a hundred times the amount required by a normal human body. Although there are few reports of the dangers of excessive vitamin B1, it may interfere with the absorption of other B vitamins and the secretion of insulin and thyroid hormone. It is not wise to supplement it in large quantities.

At present, the role of vitamin B1 discovered clinically is mainly to supplement patients with vitamin B1 deficiency, and also the B vitamins have a repairing effect on skin and mucous membrane tissues. If you want to use vitamin B1 as a mosquito repellent, the effect will not be very satisfactory. There are many mosquito repellent products on the market that are very effective. They generally use mosquito repellent materials extracted from traditional Chinese medicine, which is harmless to the body and can be used with confidence.
