Is it normal to have two bowel movements a day?

Most people have bowel movements once a day, and normal bowel movements are 1 to 3 times a day. Having bowel movements every day can effectively excrete toxins from the body and prevent them from accumulating. However, most people have bowel movements once a day, and some people even have severe constipation. They have bowel movements once every three or four days, or even once a week or so. This is abnormal. So is it normal to have bowel movements twice a day?

The normal rectum of a person has a certain threshold for pressure stimulation from feces. When this threshold is reached, the person will feel the urge to defecate. When 100 ml of feces fills the rectum by 25%, or the pressure in the rectum reaches about 2.4 kPa, the urge to defecate will occur. To reach the point where a bowel movement is necessary, rectal contents and pressure must increase threefold. But whether or not to defecate ultimately depends on whether the higher-level defecation center inhibits or enhances the effect of the lower-level center.

The frequency and habits of bowel movements vary from person to person, but generally it is once a day, after breakfast. Some people have bowel movements once every 3 to 5 days or even longer, but do not feel any difficulty in defecation. There is a comfortable and pleasant feeling after defecation. Therefore, constipation, diarrhea or changes in bowel movement patterns cannot be determined solely by the number of bowel movements, but should be determined based on each person's bowel habits.

Normal people usually have bowel movements 1 to 3 times a day or 3 times a week, and 95% of healthy people have bowel movements within this range. If the frequency of bowel movements increases and the nature of the stool changes, that is, it is no longer formed soft stool, you should go to the hospital for appropriate tests, such as routine blood tests, routine stool tests, fecal occult blood tests, stool Sudan III staining tests, or even colonoscopy. So as to find the cause as soon as possible and give appropriate treatment in time.

It is normal to have a bowel movement twice a day. As long as you develop the habit of regular bowel movements every day, you can effectively remove toxins from the body. If constipation occurs, it will cause dull skin color and severe bad breath and other phenomena. Therefore, you must develop the habit of regular bowel movements every day. You must pay more attention to regulating yourself in diet, eat more vegetables and fruits, and drink more water, which are good for your body.
