How to treat Barrett's esophagitis?

The cause of Barrett's esophagitis is still uncertain. Most scholars believe that it is caused by reflux between Barrett's esophagitis and the esophagus in the stomach, but it is not recognized by the public yet. Therefore, the mechanism of the disease cannot be determined. It has always been believed that there are both congenital and acquired causes. So, how to treat Barrett's esophagitis? Now, let me tell you about it.

The main symptoms of Barrett's esophagitis are swallowing pain, difficulty, heart burning and pain behind the sternum. When esophagitis is severe, it can cause esophageal spasm and esophageal stenosis. When inflammation at the lower end of the esophagus causes mucosal degeneration and gastric columnar epithelial cells to grow, it is called Barot's esophagus. This is the precursor of esophageal cancer and its changes must be tracked over a long period of time. Generally, bleeding from esophagitis is mild, but it may also cause vomiting blood or asphalt stools.

Barrett's esophagus is a pathological phenomenon in which the stratified squamous epithelium of the lower esophagus is replaced by simple columnar epithelium. There may be no special symptoms itself. Corresponding reflux symptoms will only appear when esophagitis, ulcers, or cancer occur. Some Barrett's epithelium is prone to cancer. If a well-defined puncture-like ulcer occurs on the basis of this lesion, it is called Barrett's ulcer, and the two are collectively called Barrett's esophagus. In the most serious cases, 10% of patients may develop cancer, which is usually considered a precancerous lesion, so early examination is necessary if symptoms occur. The goals of treatment are to relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, and promote healing of erosive ulcers. Drug treatment: Aluminum hydroxide preparations, H2 receptor blockers and proton pump antagonists, as well as prokinetics such as metoclopramide and prepossess, can be used. If a person has esophageal stenosis, dilation therapy can be performed.

In addition to drug treatment, surgical treatment is also available. Esophagectomy is considered to be the only effective way to completely cure Barrett's esophagus and prevent it from developing into esophageal adenocarcinoma. The thoracoscopic combined laparoscopic esophagectomy developed in recent years is a safe and less invasive surgery.

Regardless of whether Barrett's esophagitis is treated with medication or surgery, you should also pay attention to your diet in your life. Do not eat spicy food, do not lie flat when sleeping, raise the head of the bed, and do not eat three hours before going to bed. Barrett's esophagitis can cause many complications, and some of them are relatively serious, so everyone must seek timely treatment.
