The harm of smoking to the lungs

Everyone knows that smoking is actually a very bad thing, but many people don’t know the harm of smoking so they don’t quit. However, we need to know that the lungs of smokers are actually very different from those of normal people. From some pictures on the Internet, you can see that the difference is quite large. So what are the harms of smoking?

1. Carcinogenicity

Although it is not accepted by smokers, it is recognized worldwide that smoking causes cancer. Epidemiological surveys have shown that smoking is one of the important risk factors for lung cancer, especially squamous cell carcinoma and small cell undifferentiated carcinoma. The risk of lung cancer for smokers is 13 times that of non-smokers. If smokers smoke more than 35 cigarettes a day, the risk is 45 times higher than that of non-smokers.

2. Impact on cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

Many studies have shown that smoking is a major risk factor for many cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The incidence of coronary heart disease, hypertension, cerebrovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease in smokers is significantly increased. Statistics show that 75% of patients with coronary heart disease and hypertension have a history of smoking. The incidence of coronary heart disease in smokers is 3.5 times higher than that in non-smokers, the mortality rate of coronary heart disease in the former is 6 times higher than that in the latter, and the incidence of myocardial infarction in the former is 2 to 6 times higher than that in the latter. Pathological anatomy also found that coronary atherosclerosis lesions are more extensive and severe in the former than in the latter. The incidence of coronary heart disease increases 9 to 12 times for people who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol and smoking. 30% to 40% of deaths from cardiovascular diseases are caused by smoking, and the increase in mortality is directly proportional to the amount of smoking. Nicotine and carbon monoxide in smoke are recognized as the main harmful factors causing coronary atherosclerosis, but the exact mechanism is not yet fully understood.

So if you still think that smoking is not a big deal, then you are very wrong. Many times what we think is not necessarily right. Since smoking is such a bad thing, then why do we still do it? For your own health, you should quit smoking as soon as possible. This is also a responsible behavior for your family.
