Thyroid cystectomy steps

Thyroid cystectomy steps

Everyone wants to be healthy throughout their life. However, due to many uncertain factors, many people suffer from thyroid cysts. This disease will cause serious harm to the body. If it is not treated, it will develop very quickly. Therefore, many patients with thyroid cysts want to improve their condition through surgical removal. So what are the steps of thyroid cyst removal surgery? Let's learn about it together.

1. Exposure of incision and cyst

Make a transverse incision along the skin grain on the surface of the cyst in the neck, usually 3 to 4 cm long. The cyst can be exposed by cutting the subcutaneous tissue and platysma muscle, and separating the sternohyoid muscle and other infrahyoid muscles to both sides.

2. Separation and removal of cysts

First separate it from the front, bottom and sides of the cyst. Its pedicle is usually connected to the hyoid bone at the top. The geniohyoid muscle and the sternohyoid muscle are attached to the upper and lower edges of the hyoid bone respectively. In the middle part of the hyoid bone, the aforementioned muscles are sharply severed close to the hyoid bone, and the central part of the hyoid bone is cut 0.5 to 1 cm with bone shears. The free hyoid bone is still connected to the cyst. Continue to track the cord-like tissue between the hyoid bone and the foramen cecum at the root of the tongue upward and remove it together with the cyst. If the base of the tongue is incised at the hypopharynx, it needs to be closed with fine absorbable sutures.

3. Suturing the incision

The hyoid bone stump does not need to be sutured. After the wound has stopped bleeding, it is sutured layer by layer. Generally, drainage is not required. If necessary, a small rubber sheet can be placed to lead the drainage out from one end of the incision.

The above is a comprehensive introduction to the steps of thyroid cyst removal surgery. If you want to treat your thyroid cyst through surgery as soon as possible, you can understand the above content, and then consult a doctor and choose a regular hospital for thyroid cyst removal surgery. This can ensure safety and ensure a speedy recovery after the operation.
