Why does my left lower eyelid keep twitching?

Under normal circumstances, these eye opening and closing activities are controlled by the brain nerves. However, once the facial nerve that controls the orbicularis oculi muscle is stimulated by some external factors, it may act autonomously without following the brain's command, causing the orbicularis oculi muscle to contract repeatedly, or even spasm or tremor.
