Why does drinking water make you gain weight?

Why do some people gain weight by drinking water? I believe many people around me have said this: "I will gain weight even if I drink water." Many people eat very little but still gain weight easily, so drinking water can also make you fat. So, why does drinking water make you fat?

Why do some people gain weight by drinking water?

"Water fat" generally refers to the state in which the whole body is in a "swollen" state after getting up in the morning. In order to excrete metabolic waste, the human body produces about 60 ml of urine in an hour, while the bladder capacity is about 200 ml; therefore, people will feel the urge to urinate while sleeping. In order to prevent sleep from being disturbed, the human body will adjust itself and control the kidney's function of excreting waste, so that the water that should have been excreted from the body in the form of urine will be temporarily stored. Therefore, after getting up early, the human body will appear "swollen", forming the so-called "water fat" state.

Generally speaking, "water fat" is a normal physiological phenomenon and does not differ between men and women. It can be said that everyone will experience this phenomenon after getting up early. The reason why "water fat" on the face gives people the illusion of gaining weight is only because changes in the face are particularly sensitive, and it will naturally disappear after a while.

However, it should be pointed out that "water fat" itself is a normal physiological phenomenon; after this term was introduced into China, it was used to refer to a pathological phenomenon, that is, metabolic disorders in the body, water cannot be excreted normally, causing edema and weight gain, creating the illusion of obesity. It has been reported that in extreme cases, drinking one liter of water can result in one kilogram of weight gain. The main cause of this pathological phenomenon is excessive intake of salt or sugar, which increases the osmotic pressure in the blood, causing the water in the cells to flow into the body fluids, thus forming edema or edema.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that to solve all of the above problems, it is necessary to strengthen the spleen and remove dampness, because the spleen is responsible for transporting and transforming water and dampness. If the spleen function is insufficient, the water in the body will not be transported smoothly, and the water in the body cannot be metabolized normally. All of the water will be retained in the body, increasing the dampness of the body. This is why the embarrassing thing of "gaining weight even by drinking water" occurs!

Count and see how many symptoms of spleen deficiency you have?

Is puffiness caused by spleen deficiency? ! This is a problem that many fat people don't think about. Liu Guoxin, chief Chinese medicine doctor of the Department of Miscellaneous Diseases at Guangzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that once the spleen is deficient in the human body, it will lead to poor transportation of water and moisture in the body, and the water and moisture will retain and cause diarrhea, loose stools, and edema. Generally speaking, whether you have spleen deficiency can be identified from the following four characteristics:

(1) When I woke up in the morning and brushed my teeth, I found teeth marks on my tongue.

The spleen is closely related to the lips, which can reflect the function of the spleen and stomach. If the lips are pale, there are obvious tooth marks on the edge of the tongue, the tongue coating is thick and white and looks smooth and moist, and the mouth tastes bland and bitter, this indicates that there is spleen dampness in the body.

(2) After going to the toilet, I found that feces were stuck to the toilet bowl.

In the summer, eating raw, cold and cool food will cause cold and dampness to block the spleen. The dampness cannot be carried away normally, and the cold and dampness will be injected into the large intestine, causing the stool to be damp, becoming soft and shapeless loose stools, or sticking to the toilet.

(3) Poor appetite, feeling full after eating a small amount.

Although most people will experience a decrease in appetite and digestive function during the hot summer, this problem is more serious for people with spleen deficiency. Not only do they not eat much, they also often feel bloated after meals.

(4) Significant weight gain in a short period of time, and in severe cases, lower limb edema may occur.

People with normal spleen and stomach function can transfer excess water in the body to the lungs and kidneys in a timely manner, and then convert it into sweat and urine and excrete it from the body through the gasification function of the lungs and kidneys. If the spleen's function of transporting and transforming water is abnormal, it can lead to water retention and cause edema in the body.
