The actual age of the nine organs of the human body

There are always mysteries in our bodies that you can never discover, such as genetics and organs that store memory. But did you know that the nine organs in our body also have ages, and are just a little younger than our actual age? The editor has summarized the time-related youth of nine organs in the human body. Let’s take a look.

1. Gastric mucosal age: 5 days

Gastric acid and enzymes secreted by special molecules in the gastric mucosa keep the pH value in the stomach low, which helps to break down food. These molecules also protect the gastric mucosa from being corroded by stomach acid. This update process usually takes less than 1 week.

2. Taste bud age: 10 days

The human body has up to 10,000 working taste buds, which contain microvilli that allow us to distinguish the flavors of food. Taste buds are replaced at a rate of about 10 days. As we age, this process becomes longer and some taste buds stop being replaced. Older people may only have 5,000 taste buds left.

3. Skin age: 2 weeks

The outermost layer of our skin is the stratum corneum, which is used to protect the sensitive skin layer and resist the invasion of the external environment. Only very small particles can pass through. But the stratum corneum usually still has some minor skin problems, such as wrinkles and spots.

4. Eyelash age: 2 months

Eyelashes can protect the eyes from moisture and dust. There are 150 to 200 upper eyelashes and 75 to 100 lower eyelashes. Guinness World Record holder Stuart Muller has eyelashes that are about 7 centimeters long.

5. Red blood cell age: 4 months

The American Research Institute pointed out that a drop of blood contains millions of red blood cells, which can deliver oxygen, transfer waste and maintain life movements. Dietary iron facilitates this process, so adequate levels of the mineral are necessary for good health.

6. Bone age: 10 years

You may feel that your bones are strong, but the cells that make up your bones are constantly dying and regenerating, replacing them with an entirely new skeleton every ten years. Bone density is greatest in the first 20 years or so and then slowly weakens. Osteoporosis is caused by a phenomenon in which the number of bone cells dying is greater than the number of bone cells being regenerated.

7. Hepatocyte age: 300-500 days

The liver is the ultimate purification organ in our body, weighing about 2.7 kilograms. The liver is mainly responsible for filtering blood in the digestive tract, metabolizing drugs, and eliminating toxins. This is a very heavy job and is also very important, so liver cells must be reborn every year.

8. Costal muscle cell age: 15.1 years

The thoracic cavity protects the core organs of the human body, the heart and lungs. It is composed of 12 groups of ribs and supported by ligaments and muscles. The intercostal muscles between the ribs allow the chest cavity to expand and contract freely when a person breathes.

9. Cerebellum age: 3 years younger than you

The cerebellum is located at the lower back of the brain, near the areas that control movement and balance. Although the cerebellum accounts for only 10% of the brain's volume, it contains more than 50% of the neurons (brain cells). The cerebellum is the first part to develop, but it ages very slowly. It controls balance and posture, coordinated movement, learning motor skills, and other cognitive functions such as language.
