11 traits passed down from parents to their children

11 traits passed down from parents to their children

Children will have many similarities with their parents, such as height, body shape, skin color, eye size, nose height... Many of these are related to the parents' genes. Which ones are 100% inherited?

1. Lifespan

Lifespan has a genetic basis. We can see that some families have long-lived members, but there are also families with short-lived members. Longevity tends to run in families. If there is a precedent of longevity in your family, then the chances of your children living a long life are very high.

The most convincing research is on identical twins. According to statistics, for twins who died between the ages of 60 and 75, the average difference in death between male twins is 4 years, while the difference in death between female twins is only 2 years. However, life expectancy is also affected by environmental factors, such as eating habits, living environment, working environment, etc., which also influence people's life expectancy to varying degrees.

2. Height

Studies have shown that 70% of a person's height is determined by genetics, while only 30% is influenced by acquired factors. Generally speaking, if both parents are tall, the chance of their child being tall is 3 and the chance of being short is 1, and the opposite is true for short parents. If one parent is tall and the other is short, it depends on other factors.

3. Fat or thin

A person's body shape is somewhat hereditary. For example, some of us eat the same food and do the same amount of exercise, but some of us have a normal body shape, while others are overweight or underweight. Studies have shown that different people have different metabolic rates. People with lower metabolic rates are more likely to gain weight. This is determined by genetic factors of body shape. If parents are the type that easily gain weight, their children will be more likely to be overweight. Therefore, after such children are born, they should pay attention to nutritional balance in feeding and not eat too much. If one of the parents is obese, the child has a 30% chance of becoming obese. If both parents are obese, the child has a 50%-60% chance of becoming obese. In addition, there are also some sayings that the mother plays a greater role in the child's body shape, that is, regardless of the child's gender, they are more like the mother.

4. Skin color

Skin color is often inherited impartially, leaving people with no choice. It always follows the natural law of "multiplication and then average", leaving the children with the "comprehensive color" of their parents. For example, if both parents have dark skin, they will definitely not have a child with fair skin; if one parent is darker and the other is lighter, then after "averaging" during the embryo, the child will have a neutral skin color that is neither dark nor white. Therefore, the children of yellow people must have yellow skin color. An African student studying abroad found a Chinese woman with dark skin, and the child they gave birth to also had dark skin.

5. Eyes

Shape: The shape of a parent's eyes has a clear influence on their child. For children, eye shape and size are inherited from their parents, and big eyes are dominant over small eyes. As long as one of the parents has big eyes, the possibility of having a child with big eyes will be greater.

Double eyelids: Generally speaking, if a person with single eyelids marries a person with double eyelids, their child is very likely to have double eyelids. Therefore, some children are born with single eyelids, and when they grow up they will "add" double eyelids like their father. According to statistics, the proportion of double eyelids among infants and young children is only 20%, among middle school students it is 40%, and among college students it is about 50%. But if both parents have single eyelids, the child will generally have single eyelids as well.

Eye color: In terms of eye color, dark colors such as black are dominant over light colors. That is to say, if you envy blue eyes and choose a person with blue eyes as your lover, but because you have black eyes, the child you give birth to will not have blue eyes.

Eyelashes: Long eyelashes are also dominant. As long as one of the parents has attractive long eyelashes, the child is very likely to inherit long eyelashes.

6. Nose

Generally speaking, people with big, high noses and wide nostrils have dominant traits. If one of the parents has a straight nose, there is a high possibility that it will be passed on to the child. In addition, the genetic genes of the nose will continue into adulthood, which means that people with short noses when they are young may still have high noses when they grow up.

7. Ears

The shape of the ears is hereditary, with big ears being dominant and small ears being recessive. If one of the parents has big ears, the child is very likely to have big ears as well.

8. Jaw

It is definitely a dominant trait. If either parent has a prominent large chin, the child will most likely grow a similar chin. This trait is very obvious.

9. Sound

A child's voice is usually very similar to that of his or her parents, even more so than their appearance or body shape. If the father has a hearty laugh and the mother has a loud voice, it is hard to imagine that the child will speak softly. Usually, a son's voice is very similar to his father's, while a daughter's voice is very similar to her mother's.

The pitch, volume, and sound quality of the voice are not only related to the larynx, but are also determined by factors such as the size of the nose, the size of the mouth, the length of the tongue, the bones of the face, etc. Moreover, all of these aspects are inherited from the genes of the parents, so it is not surprising that voice is inherited. However, if the sound quality influenced by the parents' physiological and anatomical structure is not beautiful, most of it can be changed through acquired pronunciation training. Therefore, some people whose vocal conditions are not favorable may experience voice changes through acquired pronunciation training. In this way, people who do not have good vocal conditions can realize their dream of having a sweet and mellow voice through scientific and hard practice.

10. Intelligence

Although intelligence is not entirely determined by genetic factors, it does have a certain relationship with genetics. Human intelligence depends on both genetic and environmental factors. It is generally believed that genetics plays a large role, while the environment determines the other 40%. Someone has conducted a long-term study on a group of children with an IQ of more than 140 points, and found that these children maintained excellent talents when they grew up. The average IQ of their children was 128 points, far exceeding the level of ordinary children. Among those with mental disabilities, 59% of their children have mental disabilities or intellectual disabilities.

The inheritance of intelligence includes not only IQ but also EQ. The so-called emotional intelligence refers to a person's personality, temper, ability to deal with things, communication skills and other aspects. For example, some children are like their fathers in terms of their ability to deal with things and socialize, but in other aspects, such as personality and temper, they are very similar to their mothers.

In addition, a child’s intelligence is also closely related to the environment, and the actual performance of intelligence is greatly influenced by acquired factors, so we advocate early education. Starting from the fetus, the first peak of brain cell development occurs at 10-18 weeks, and the second peak occurs 3-6 months after the child is born. If you want your child to have good intellectual development, you should pay attention to nutrition intake during the first peak period, i.e., pregnancy, and breastfeeding during the second peak period. This will enable your child's intelligence to develop well.

11. Parental Talent

Whether it is the father or the mother, talents in certain areas may be passed on to the children, making the children have high potential in certain areas. Therefore, if a parent's talents are properly developed under the influence of the surrounding environment, their children can develop better in this aspect.

Since ancient times, there have been many families with high intelligence structures, such as the families of musicians Bach, Mozart and Weber, in which there were many musicians in several generations. In addition, Zu Chongzhi, a famous scientist during the Southern and Northern Dynasties in my country, had his son Zu Huanzhi and grandson Zu Hao, both mechanical inventors, as well as famous astronomers and mathematicians. This phenomenon of familial clustering of intelligence precisely illustrates the role of innate and acquired factors in talent and endowment.
