The difference between peony and peony

Peony and tree peonies have always been called "the two best flowers". They are both from the Paeoniaceae family, but the one we hear the most about in normal times is probably tree peonies. Many people use tree peonies to praise something or a person. Peony is called the king of flowers, and tree peonies are just a transformation. They look very similar, like sisters. Today we are going to introduce to you the difference between tree peonies and tree peonies.

There are many similarities between peony and herbaceous peony. They look very similar and are both Ranunculaceae. Many people like to plant them together, and they will bloom one after another, which is really beautiful. But do you know the difference between herbaceous peony and peony? Today we will take a look at what the difference is between them.

The biggest difference between peony and peony is:

1. Differentiate by branches or stems: Peony is a shrub with woody stems, while peony is a perennial herb with leathery roots.

2. Differentiate from the leaves: Peony leaves are broad and thick, green with a slight yellowish tint on the front, while peony leaves are narrow and thin;

3. Differentiate from the flowers: Peony flowers grow at the top of the branches, and the flower diameter is generally about 20 cm; while peony flowers grow solitary at the top of the branches or near the top of the leaf axils, and the flower diameter is 15 cm

The difference between peony and peony:

1. The most fundamental difference: Peony is a woody plant that can grow up to 2 meters tall, while peony is a short (perennial tuber) herbaceous plant no taller than 1 meter.

2. Flowering period: Peony blooms earlier than peony. Peonies usually bloom in mid-to-late April, while peonies bloom in early to mid-May. The flowering period of the two flowers differs by about 15 days, which is commonly known as "the peony is angry to death". Peonies bloom in late spring in March, while peonies bloom in late spring and early summer, hence the saying “Watch peonies three days after Grain Rain, and watch peonies three days after Beginning of Summer.”

3. Flower shape: Peony flowers grow at the top of branches, mostly solitary. The flower diameter is generally around 20 cm, and some can reach 30 cm; while peony flowers are one or several at the top or in the axillaries, with a flower diameter of around 15 cm. The flowers bloom about one month later than peonies, so there is a saying "see peonies on the morning of Grain Rain and see peonies on the morning of Beginning of Summer".

4. Leaves: Peony leaves are broad, alternate, green on the front and slightly yellow on the back, hairless, and have white powder on the back. Peony leaves are single near the flowers, narrow and glossy, dark green on both sides and densely packed.

5. Stem: The stem of peony is woody and it is a perennial shrub. It is generally thick and numerous. The aboveground part does not die after the leaves fall, so peony is also known as "wood peony". The stem of peony is herbaceous and it is a perennial herbaceous flower. The aboveground part dies after the leaves fall. Therefore, peony is also known as "boneless flower" (a perennial flower, a perennial herb, the above-ground part dies in late autumn and early winter of the current year, but the underground rhizomes can still grow new plants in the second year. This kind of flower is called "boneless flower").

6. The colors of peonies are richer than those of peony.

7. Peony is known as the king of flowers. Peony is known as the flower phase.

Now everyone should know the difference between peony and tree peony. In our daily life, the most common flower is probably peony. Peony can never replace the image of peony in the hearts of Chinese people. When we describe peony, we usually use words like "king of flowers" and "beauty of the country", which shows the status of peony. It is also a flower that symbolizes wealth.
