What are the basic concepts of metabolism?

As we all know, metabolism plays a vital role in the human body. It not only provides the energy needed for life activities, but also decomposes organic nutrients in the human body. In addition, it can also obtain the nutrients needed by the human body from the surrounding environment. In fact, metabolism is divided into two types: material metabolism and energy metabolism. So what is the basic concept of specific metabolism?

The first type: material metabolism:

It refers to the exchange of substances between organisms and the external environment and the transformation of substances within organisms. It can be subdivided into:

Absorb nutrients from the outside world and transform them into its own substances. (Assimilation)

Some of its own substances are oxidized and decomposed and metabolic waste is excreted. (Alienation)

The second type: Energy metabolism: refers to the exchange of energy between organisms and the external environment and the transformation of energy within organisms.

It can be subdivided into:

Storing energy (assimilation)

Release of energy (alienation)

In the process of metabolism, there is both assimilation and dissimilation.

Assimilation: also called anabolism) refers to the process by which organisms convert nutrients obtained from the external environment into their own constituent substances and store energy.

Catabolism: (also called catabolism) refers to the process by which an organism can break down part of its own constituent substances, release the energy contained therein, and excrete the final products of decomposition.

The relationship between assimilation, dissimilation, material metabolism and energy metabolism in metabolism can be summarized by the table on the left.

The third type: the relationship between metabolism and secretion

Endocrine regulates metabolism through hormones, thereby stabilizing the body. Metabolism transmits the conditions of the living organism and the external environment to the endocrine system through the nervous system, and the endocrine system makes adjustments to enable the living organism to better adapt to the environment.
