The harm of scale

The harm of scale

I believe everyone should know something about scale. It mainly exists in our domestic water, which is caused by the long-term precipitation of some metal ions in the water. However, for this common scale, we should know the harm it causes to our human body, which can effectively help us resist the troubles of scale and make our water use safer.

The main components of scale are magnesium oxide and calcium carbonate, which will have a certain impact on the development of our body. Therefore, when we drink tap water, we should pay attention to the cleanliness of the water. It is best to drink some disinfected tap water, so that the water contains less scale.

The main components are calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide, and may also contain a certain amount of magnesium bicarbonate - natural water generally contains a small amount of calcium ions and magnesium ions, as well as a small amount of bicarbonate ions. Heat natural water to boil. Since the thermal decomposition temperatures of calcium bicarbonate and magnesium bicarbonate are below 100 degrees Celsius, calcium bicarbonate will decompose into calcium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water, and magnesium bicarbonate will also decompose into magnesium carbonate, carbon dioxide and water.

However, if boiled for a long time, magnesium carbonate will react with water and partially or completely convert into magnesium hydroxide. This is because magnesium hydroxide is less soluble than magnesium carbonate. Continuous heating produces more insoluble magnesium hydroxide, which is beneficial to the hydrolysis of magnesium carbonate. Calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, and magnesium hydroxide are substances with very low solubility and will precipitate from water to form precipitates. The precipitate formed usually contains some water of crystallization and a small amount of other metal ions. To sum up, the main components of scale are calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide, and may also contain a certain amount of magnesium bicarbonate.

Scale contains calcium. If the human body consumes too much calcium, it is easy to get stones. Excessive calcium ion content in the blood can cause muscle weakness. Scale affects human health. Tartar and periodontitis are often caused by scale and can be fatal. Legionnaires' disease, for which there is still no vaccine, hides in scale and kills 2,000 to 3,000 people in France every year.

How to descale:

1. Crush the egg shell and pour it into the kettle together with the egg white. Shake it vigorously to remove the scale in the kettle.

2. Pour some white vinegar into the kettle. If there is no white vinegar, you can use other edible vinegar. Put it on the fire and shake the kettle to allow the vinegar to fully contact and dissolve the scale. This method is time-consuming, but more effective.

3. If the kettle at home is covered with a thick layer of scale, you can pour out all the water in the kettle and then dry-boil it on the fire. When the kettle is very hot, quickly pour a lot of cold water into the kettle. At this time, the large pieces of scale in the kettle will fall off one after another, and the remaining thin scale can be removed with white vinegar.

4. When boiling water in an aluminum kettle with scale, add 1 teaspoon of baking soda and boil it for a few minutes to remove the scale.

Through the detailed introduction in the article, we should have a certain understanding of the harm of scale. If you don’t have a deep understanding of scale, we suggest that you can search for relevant information online, or go to the library to read some content about scale. For the safety of our family, we should know how to remove the scale in the water so that we can make better use of green tap water.
