Primary intercostal neuralgia is rare. When intercostal neuralgia occurs, pain can be seen from back to front, radiating in a semicircular shape along the corresponding intercostal space; the pain is tingling or burning. The pain worsens with coughing, deep breathing or sneezing. The pain often occurs in one nerve on one side.
