Iodine and iodine tincture

Iodine and iodine tincture

Iodine tincture and iodine have similar names, so people are always unsure which one they need when purchasing. In fact, iodine tincture and iodine tincture both have the function of disinfecting skin wounds or medical devices, and the effects are very good. The only difference is that they contain different ingredients. The feeling will be very obvious after use on damaged skin. You will not feel much after using iodine tincture, but because iodine tincture contains alcohol, the wound will be very painful after use.

The methods required for using iodine tincture and iodine tincture are also different. Simply put, the easiest way to distinguish between iodine tincture and iodine tincture is that iodine tincture is a complex iodine. When using it normally, you can choose the appropriate proportion of iodine tincture and apply it directly according to the part you need to disinfect and the severity of the injury. When using iodine to disinfect the skin, you must use 70% alcohol to wipe off the iodine when it is almost dry. This process is called deiodination. The following is a brief introduction. I hope that patients can use iodine tincture and iodine tincture accurately according to their own conditions.

How to use iodine tincture: Contains iodine, potassium iodide and ethanol. Specifications: 2%, 5%. To disinfect the skin and surgical site, apply 2% iodine tincture or 3% to 5% iodine tincture to the skin, wait for it to dry slightly, and then wipe off the iodine with 70% ethanol. Apply 1% iodine glycerin topically for oral mucosa, gum infection and chronic oral inflammation. The principle of its disinfection is still the super strong oxidation of free iodine atoms, which can destroy the cell membrane structure and protein molecules of pathogens. If used properly, the results are very reliable. However, due to its strong oxidation ability, it may also cause burns to skin tissue. Therefore, alcohol deiodination is required. Treatment of simple goiter, glandular injection: mild glandular swelling uses iodine tincture injection (made up of 100 ml of 2% iodine tincture, 6 ml of benzyl alcohol, and 194 ml of distilled water), moderate glandular swelling uses dilute alcohol iodine tincture injection (made up of 100 ml of 2% iodine tincture, 6 ml of benzyl alcohol, 50 ml of 95% alcohol, and 144 ml of distilled water), severe glandular swelling uses concentrated alcohol iodine tincture injection (made up of 100 ml of 2% iodine tincture, 100 ml of 95% alcohol, and 100 ml of 3% procaine solution), 0.5 to 2 ml each time, once every 6 days, generally 10 times as a course of treatment. Used for thyroid crisis and preoperative preparation for hyperthyroidism, oral administration: 0.1-0.5 ml of compound iodine solution each time, 0.3-0.8 ml per day, diluted with water and taken. The maximum course of treatment is 2 weeks.

The effects and uses of iodine tincture: This product is a complex of surfactant polyvinylpyrrolidone and iodine, in which 80%-90% of the bound iodine can be depolymerized into free iodine to exert a bactericidal effect. It is a broad-spectrum, powerful bactericidal disinfectant with a strong killing effect on viruses, bacteria, fungi, mold spores, spores, and protozoa. The main bactericidal effect of iodine tincture is iodine itself, which can halogenate bacterial proteins, inactivate enzymes and lead to the death of microorganisms. Therefore, ethanol deiodination at a concentration of 15ppm can kill the reproductive bodies of various bacteria in 1 minute, kill fungi in 1.5 hours, and take longer for spores; at a concentration of 150ppm, hepatitis B surface antigen can be destroyed in 10 minutes. It has low skin irritation, low toxicity and long-lasting effect. Safe and easy to use. Almost non-irritating to tissues. It is not affected by blood, plasma, pus, soap, etc. which may reduce the efficacy. After applying to the skin or contaminated clothes, no alcohol deiodination is required. It is used for skin disinfection of surgical sites, skin disinfection before intramuscular and intravenous injections, disinfection of burns, scalds and abrasions, and treatment of mucosal infections, postoperative wound infections, skin infections and bedsores. It can also be used for the disinfection of metal medical devices and tableware. Treatment of Trichomonas vaginitis. For external use: use 0.1% solution for flushing; use 5%-10% ointment or suppository to treat inflammation or ulcers; soak tableware in 0.05% solution for 5 minutes for disinfection. Skin disinfection: Use a solution for rubbing or flushing at a concentration of 5%; dilute it to 0.3%-1% with saline when flushing the abscess cavity. For mucosal infections, gargle with a solution diluted to 0.1% for oral infections and rinse with a solution diluted to 0.5% for vaginal mucosal infections. Disinfection of stainless steel or chrome-plated medical devices: Soak in 1% solution for 30 minutes.

Although both iodine tincture and iodine povidone are disinfectants, they are only suitable for use when the wound is relatively small and the bleeding is very little. If the wound is large or there is a lot of bleeding, you must choose to go to the nearest hospital for treatment and bandaging. Do not use disinfectants at will to avoid affecting the condition and delaying treatment.
