Things to note after MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging is a relatively common disease in life. Many diseases can be diagnosed by MRI. MRI can show the diseased parts particularly clearly, allowing doctors to accurately judge the disease in the body. MRI usually rarely has errors. However, although MRI is widely used, there are some precautions when examining it.

1. Precautions after MRI

1.1. People with magnetic substances in their bodies, such as pacemakers, artificial valves, or metal foreign bodies near important organs, cannot undergo this examination. However, people with implants confirmed by the surgeon to be non-magnetic objects can undergo MRI examination.

1.2. The following situations should be explained to the technical staff: whether there is any surgical history; whether there are any metal or magnetic materials implanted in the body, including metal IUDs, etc.; whether there are any dentures, electronic ears, artificial eyes, etc.; whether there is any drug allergy; whether any metal foreign objects have splashed into the body.

1.3. Before the examination, you need to take off all clothes except underwear and change into special clothes for examination in the MRI room. Remove any metal accessories you are wearing such as necklaces, earrings, watches and rings. Remove facial makeup and items such as dentures, artificial eyes, and glasses.

2. What are the examination items of MRI?

2.1. Check for lesions in the heart and large blood vessels and in the mediastinum of the lungs. Examination of abdominal and pelvic organs; diagnosis of diseases of the biliary system, urinary system, etc. is significantly better than CT. It is very sensitive to joint soft tissue lesions, aseptic necrosis of bone marrow and bone, and can detect lesions earlier than X-ray and CT.

2.2. Examination of nervous system lesions, including tumors, infarction, hemorrhage, degeneration, congenital malformations, infection, etc., has almost become a means of diagnosis. In particular, spinal cord and spinal lesions such as spinal tumors, atrophy, degeneration, traumatic disc lesions, etc. are the preferred examination method.

2.3. Examination of brain, spinal cord and other diseases is the most effective imaging diagnostic method today. It can detect tumors, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, brain abscess, cerebral cysticercosis and congenital cerebrovascular malformations at an early stage, and can also determine the type and cause of hydrocephalus. Magnetic resonance imaging is unique in showing congenital spinal cord abnormalities, syringomyelia and sclerosis, and spinal cord scars.

3. What are the advantages of magnetic resonance imaging?

Magnetic resonance imaging is a biological magnetic spin imaging technology that utilizes the characteristics of atomic nucleus spin motion to generate signals after radio frequency pulse stimulation in an external magnetic field. The signals are detected by a detector and input into a computer, and the images are displayed on the screen after processing and conversion. In other words, MRI is different from CT, X-ray, and radiography. It is not radioactive and only relies on a magnetic field of a certain intensity to stimulate the spin axes of atoms inside an object to keep consistent, thus generating a spin pulse, and then using this pulse signal to produce the required image.

Magnetic resonance imaging can show fat, internal organs, muscles, fast-flowing blood, bones, and air, etc. The internal structure of the organs can also be clearly displayed. Doctors can easily identify tumors, inflammation, necrotic lesions, abnormal substance deposits, functional obstructions, blood circulation obstructions and other lesions in the patient's body. It provides great help in the diagnosis of various diseases of the nervous system, chest, abdomen and limbs.
