What are the preventive measures for the sequelae of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma and what should we pay attention to in our diet?

There will be some sequelae after radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma, so you must take protective measures in your life. Below, the editor will introduce to you: What are the preventive measures for the sequelae of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma? What should you pay attention to in your diet?

The prevention and treatment measures for the sequelae of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma are as follows:

Minimize radiation dose to the ears.

Second, when radiation otitis media ruptures the tympanic membrane and causes discharge, the drainage should be kept unobstructed to avoid the entry of sewage and dirt, and antibacterial ear drops should be used early.

Third, rinse the external auditory canal with 3% hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Remember not to apply too much pressure.

Fourth, do not dig the ear canal at will to reduce exogenous infection of the middle ear.

Fifth, during or after radiotherapy, use 1% ephedrine nasal drops every day to flush the nasopharyngeal cavity, remove nasopharyngeal secretions, and reduce Eustachian tube obstruction.

Sixth, promptly treat acute and chronic inflammation of the nasopharynx to prevent bacteria from passing through the open Eustachian tube and causing mastoid infection.

Seventh, keep the outer ear clean, use sterile cotton balls to block the external auditory canal when bathing or swimming, strengthen exercise, keep warm, prevent colds, and reduce the chance of infection.

The diet of nasopharyngeal cancer patients should be nutritious and balanced. They should eat more vegetables and fruits, eat less or no salted fish, pickles, smoked meat, bacon and other foods containing nitrosamines. Spicy and irritating foods should not be eaten, and excessive drinking should not be done. Especially during the radiotherapy and chemotherapy of nasopharyngeal cancer, patients often experience dry mouth, dry throat, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this is due to qi and yin deficiency and heat toxicity. Spicy and hot stimulating products should be avoided, and the diet should be light. Foods that are easily digestible, nutritious and delicious should be chosen.

Drugs and foods that can be used for diet therapy include: monk fruit, lily, loquat, American ginseng, yam, lotus seeds, such as lotus root leaves, water chestnut leaves, pear juice, radish juice, mung bean soup, winter melon soup, reed root soup, watermelon, pumpkin, loofah, jellyfish, loquat, kelp, water chestnut, etc. Eat more fish, meat, milk, honey, fresh vegetables, fruits, etc.

The above are the prevention measures for the sequelae of radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. I hope they will be helpful to everyone.
