Clinical symptoms of ovarian teratoma

Clinical symptoms of ovarian teratoma

Ovarian teratoma is a common type of ovarian tumor in women. Its clinical symptoms include abdominal pain, abdominal mass, menstrual abnormalities, etc. Some patients may not have obvious symptoms. It is recommended to seek medical attention in time when related symptoms appear or abnormalities are found during physical examination to avoid delays in diagnosis and treatment.

1. Abdominal pain and mass

Abdominal pain is a common symptom of ovarian teratoma, which may manifest as intermittent dull pain or acute severe pain. Acute pain is mostly caused by the interruption of blood supply or rupture due to the torsion of the tumor. In addition, some patients may feel a foreign body sensation in the abdomen or even touch a hard mass. Regular physical examinations are recommended. If a mass is found, B-ultrasound examination or CT scan should be performed, and timely treatment should be given after a clear diagnosis.

2. Abnormal menstruation

Ovarian teratoma may affect the normal function of the ovaries and cause menstrual disorders, including abnormal menstrual cycles, heavy or light menstrual flow, etc. Especially for young women, once menstrual problems are found, they should not be taken lightly and should be evaluated by a gynecologist as soon as possible to see if they are related to the tumor.

3. Digestive and urinary system symptoms

Large teratomas may cause digestive system discomfort, such as bloating and constipation, or urinary system problems, such as frequent urination and urgency, due to their location and compression. These symptoms can easily be mistaken for common digestive or urinary tract problems and require imaging examinations for diagnosis.

Once an ovarian teratoma is diagnosed, it can be treated by surgical resection. Common surgical methods include laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery, laparotomy, and ovarian cystectomy to preserve fertility. After surgery, further treatment is determined based on the pathological results. If it is malignant, chemotherapy may be required.

Ovarian teratoma may not present obvious symptoms, but regular physical examinations and attention to physical abnormalities can help early detection and treatment. If you have abdominal pain or other abnormal symptoms, please see a doctor as soon as possible to identify the cause and receive targeted treatment to effectively avoid complications and health risks.
