What causes coma after meningioma surgery?

Patients are often in a coma after meningioma surgery. If the time is short, it may be related to the side effects of anesthetics. After the drug is metabolized, they usually wake up gradually. If the patient is still in a coma for more than an hour more than 3~4 days after surgery, consider coma caused by intracranial hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, cerebral edema, and increased intracranial pressure. If necessary, check the head CT, and pay attention to whether it is hypoglycemia, epileptic seizures, hyponatremia, ketoacidosis, etc. Brain tumor surgery, whether it is benign or malignant tumor surgery, is performed under a microscope. Minimally invasive surgery has little trauma. If the operation is successful, the patient can wake up 6 hours after the operation. If the operation is complicated and the brain edema is severe, the patient may fall into a coma. This situation is mostly due to the complex growth site of the meningioma, located in the functional area or peripheral edema caused by malignant tumors.
