What to do about tinnitus caused by nasopharyngeal cancer and how to treat it

What should I do if I have tinnitus due to nasopharyngeal cancer? How should I treat it?

1. More than 70% of nasopharyngeal carcinomas have tinnitus symptoms, and the two are closely related. Because the location of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is extremely hidden, both male and female nasopharyngeal carcinomas are easily misdiagnosed and missed, and cancer is not known. Tinnitus symptoms are a common and important clinical manifestation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Tinnitus should not be taken lightly.

2. The Eustachian tube is the passage between the nasopharynx and the middle ear cavity. After nasopharyngeal cancer occurs, the opening of the Eustachian tube is often blocked. Tinnitus and hearing loss will occur. The sound and weight of tinnitus caused by nasopharyngeal cancer vary, some are like cicadas, some are like wind and rain, and some are like the roar of machines and trains.

3. Radiotherapy. This is a high-energy treatment method. X-rays or other radioactive rays can kill cancer cells and make the tumor shrink and disappear. Most nasopharyngeal cancers are very sensitive to high-energy radiotherapy. Radiotherapy can preserve the structure within the treatment range and is not easy to damage surrounding tissues. Radiotherapy is the most important method for treating nasopharyngeal cancer.

4. Drug therapy. This is a treatment method that uses drugs to kill cancer cells. Chemotherapy drugs can be taken orally or injected into a vein or muscle. Chemotherapy can also be used to treat recurrent nasopharyngeal cancer, but the effect is not very obvious.

5. During surgery, doctors remove tumors and cancer cells through surgery. Since the nasopharynx is closely related to many other important parts, surgery is not the first choice for treating nasopharyngeal cancer. However, if nasopharyngeal cancer patients cannot undergo radiation therapy, surgery is the only option.

Nasopharyngeal cancer is easily misdiagnosed, and patients need to be examined in a regular hospital to avoid delaying the disease. Once diagnosed, they should immediately cooperate with the doctor for treatment to prolong their life span.
