Effective prevention and treatment of rhinitis is the key to preventing nasopharyngeal cancer. The early symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer are atypical, with only symptoms similar to rhinitis, such as nasal congestion, headache, sputum and blood in the nasal discharge, so they are often ignored. It is not until nasopharyngeal cancer metastasizes and cervical lymph nodes swell that people know they have nasopharyngeal cancer.

What are the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer?

Patients with early stage I nasopharyngeal carcinoma have basically no symptoms except for a few occasional morning retraction of blood in the nose or tinnitus. However, patients in stage I who go to the hospital for treatment often have more than one ear or nose symptom or headache.

There are many initial symptoms that prompt patients to seek medical treatment, such as lymph node masses on the upper side of the neck, which account for the most, ear and nose symptoms such as bloody discharge, symptoms of otitis media, headache, cranial nerve damage such as diplopia, distant metastasis, dermatomyositis, etc. The frequency order of symptoms and signs: the metastasis rate of cervical lymph node metastasis is as high as 60-80%, and half of them have bilateral metastasis, bloody discharge, nose bleeding, headache, tinnitus, hearing loss, nasal congestion, cranial nerve damage and others.
