Is it normal not to cough after lung cancer surgery?

Is it normal not to cough after lung cancer surgery?

1. It is normal for most people not to cough after lung cancer surgery because the cancerous tissue has been removed and will no longer irritate the respiratory tract.

2. Lung cancer is a malignant tumor that appears in the lung epithelial tissue. There are basically no physical signs in the early stage of the disease. As the disease progresses, symptoms such as cough, sputum, hemoptysis, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and dyspnea may occur. The cough caused by lung cancer is related to the cancer tissue stimulating the bronchial mucosa and changing the mucosal secretion. If the disease is diagnosed in stage I, II, or IIIA, surgical resection can be considered to remove the in situ cancer tissue and clean the lymph nodes.

3. After lung cancer surgery, the cancerous tissue has been removed and no longer irritates the bronchial mucosal tissue, so the coughing symptoms after surgery will also be relieved or disappear. However, coughing does not mean clinical treatment. The follow-up treatment after surgery is different for different lung cancer stages and pathological types. Some advanced and highly malignant tumors also require chemotherapy and radiotherapy after surgery.

4. It is recommended that patients strictly follow the doctor's advice for the next treatment after lung cancer surgery and have good treatment compliance. If lung cancer has been cured, regular medical check-ups are required after surgery to observe the specific recovery of the disease. At the same time, patients are advised to strengthen personal life care, such as quitting smoking and drinking, paying attention to the combination of work and rest, and eating more protein foods such as eggs, milk, poultry, etc.
