The difference between mole and melanoma

There are differences between moles and melanomas in clinical symptoms, histological characteristics, and degree of malignancy.

The difference between moles and melanoma:

1. Different clinical symptoms: Moles are usually round or oval, with a diameter of less than 6mm, usually brown or black, with a smooth surface and clear edges. Melanoma is usually a black or brown-black tumor, with a diameter of more than 6mm, irregular shape, uneven surface, and blurred edges.

2. Different histological characteristics: Black moles are benign melanocytic nevi, which are formed by the aggregation of melanocytes at the junction of the epidermis and dermis, and histologically appear as flat or raised melanocytic nevi. Melanoma is a malignant melanoma tumor, which histologically appears as irregular melanocyte proliferation and infiltration, often accompanied by atypia, nuclear division and uneven pigment deposition.

3. Different degrees of malignancy: Moles are benign skin lesions that usually do not cause malignant transformation. Melanoma, on the other hand, is a malignant tumor with a high degree of malignancy that can spread and metastasize rapidly, posing a great threat to the patient's life.
