What are the massage methods for wrist ligament injuries?

The structure of the wrist joint is usually very complex, and there are many joints and ligaments. The wrist joint contains relatively abundant blood vessels, nerves and tendons. If you don't pay attention to it and move too much, it is easy to cause ligament damage. Ligament damage has a great impact on people's daily life and work, and it needs to be actively treated. What are the massage methods for wrist ligament damage?

Massage method for wrist ligament injury

Clinically, acute wrist sprain can be seen with swelling and pain in the wrist, functional movement disorders, aggravated by movement, and local tenderness. Chronic strain may not cause obvious swelling and pain, only fatigue or inflexibility.

Massage can loosen adhesions, relieve spasms, promote the dissipation of hematomas, relieve pain, and treat soft tissue injuries and strains of the wrist joint.

Massage therapy

(1) Sit down and use the tip of your thumb to massage the Yangxi (in the radial depression on the dorsum of the wrist, Figure 17-8), Yangchi, Hegu, Carpal bone (in the ulnar side of the dorsum of the hand, in the depression in front of the pisiform bone, Figure 17-8), and Yanglao (in the radial depression on the head of the ulna, Figure 17-8) acupoints on the affected upper limb for 1 minute each, until a strong soreness and swelling sensation is felt.

(2) Sit down, use one hand to pull and fix the affected hand, and use the other hand to rub the affected wrist for 2 minutes until it feels warm.

(3) Sit down, relax your wrist, press the back of the affected wrist joint with the thumbs of both hands, and use the other four fingers to hold the wrist for traction (Figure 17-9). Rotate and shake the wrist 4 times under traction.

(4) Sit down and have a family member stand beside the affected limb. Hold the affected arm with one hand and place the other hand around the wrist joint. Use the thumb and four fingers to knead the forearm in a rotating motion for 2 minutes.

Wrist ligament injuries are mainly caused by external forces, especially external forces acting directly on the wrist joint, and then falling with the hand to the ground, which causes the wrist ligaments to be stretched, thus causing injury. In this case, the ligament injury mainly causes ligament traction edema, and then ligament tearing or rupture.

Simple ligament traction edema only causes swelling and pain in the wrist joint, and affects the movement of the wrist joint. If the ligament is torn or even broken, it can easily cause wrist deformity and lead to wrist dislocation. Therefore, simple wrist ligament injury can be treated conservatively. If the wrist ligament is torn or ruptured, it can easily cause instability in the wrist, leading to limited wrist movement in the later stage and causing wrist arthritis. Surgical repair is required to stabilize the wrist joint.
