Is thyroid cancer not easy to detect?

Thyroid cancer is a relatively common endocrine tumor in clinical practice. It is usually not easy to detect and can generally be diagnosed through thyroid ultrasound, fine needle aspiration cytology, pathological examination, etc.

1. Ultrasound: Thyroid ultrasound is the preferred method for diagnosing thyroid cancer. It has a high diagnostic accuracy and can help detect thyroid nodules. Under ultrasound, medium-echo or low-echo nodules can be seen in the thyroid gland, with basically clear boundaries, which helps to determine whether the thyroid nodules are benign or malignant. If the ultrasound examination results are abnormal, it means that the patient may have thyroid cancer;

2. Fine needle aspiration cytology: Fine needle aspiration cytology refers to the extraction of cells for pathological examination under ultrasound guidance. If the pathological examination results indicate a malignant lesion, a clear diagnosis can usually be made. However, fine needle aspiration cytology is an invasive examination, and bleeding, infection, etc. may occur during the examination. It is recommended to choose a regular hospital for examination;

3. Pathological examination: Pathological examination refers to the use of a puncture needle through the skin to enter the thyroid tissue under ultrasound guidance, and to remove a portion of cells for pathological examination. It can determine the type of lesion and whether there is thyroid cancer, and is widely used in clinical practice;

4. Others: Such as nuclear scanning, which can observe the function of thyroid nodules and whether they have uptake function through metabolic imaging. Nuclear scanning can also observe the blood supply of thyroid nodules to determine whether they are benign or malignant.

If the patient is diagnosed with thyroid cancer, it is recommended to go to the hospital oncology department in time and undergo surgery as soon as possible under the guidance of a doctor. For patients in the late stage who cannot undergo surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other methods can be used for treatment.
