How long should I take medicine for thyroid cancer after single resection

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor that originates from the thyroid follicular epithelium or parafollicular cells. A single thyroid cancer resection does not necessarily require medication. The specific duration of medication is usually determined by factors such as the stage of thyroid cancer, pathological type, and effectiveness of surgical treatment.

1. Early stage: For patients with early stage thyroid cancer, they usually do not need to take medication after surgical resection. Patients with early stage thyroid cancer generally undergo simple surgery and observation after surgery;

2. Middle and late stages: patients with middle and late stage thyroid cancer may need combined treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy after surgery to help kill any remaining tumor cells. Commonly used chemotherapy drugs include cisplatin and paclitaxel, and commonly used targeted drugs include rituximab and cetuximab, which are generally taken for 1-2 months;

3. Late stage: For patients with advanced thyroid cancer, since metastasis to the lungs, bones and other parts often occurs, they need to take medication for systemic treatment after surgery. The conventional medication for patients with advanced thyroid cancer after surgery usually includes radiotherapy, chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy, etc. Commonly used targeted drugs include rituximab and cetuximab, and the medication time is usually about half a year.

Patients who undergo thyroid cancer resection should pay attention to rest and avoid fatigue in their daily lives. They can exercise appropriately to help their bodies recover. At the same time, they should also pay attention to psychological adjustment, correctly understand the disease, not worry too much, and actively cooperate with doctors for treatment.
