Can surgery be performed if colon cancer has multiple metastases?

Generally speaking, if a patient has multiple metastases of colon cancer, surgery is not recommended. At this point, the tumor cells have already spread and infiltrated distant sites, and are generally considered to be advanced cancer clinically.

For patients in such cases, an individualized comprehensive treatment method needs to be developed based on the specific condition, and regular check-ups and close observation of changes in the patient's various indicators and physical condition are required so as to adjust the treatment plan in a timely manner or deal with the occurrence of complications.

1. Chemotherapy: Currently commonly used drugs include oxaliplatin injection, capecitabine tablets, irinotecan capsules, etc., which can inhibit the growth and reproduction of cancer cells, thereby playing a role in controlling the progression of the disease;

2. Targeted therapy: such as bevacizumab injection and cetuximab injection, which can act on specific gene mutation sites, selectively kill cancer cells without affecting normal tissues, and cause less damage to the body;

3. Immunotherapy: Activate the body's own immune system by using recombinant human interleukin-2 injection, pembrolizumab injection and other drugs to kill cancer cells;

4. Radiotherapy: Radiation irradiation can reduce the scope of lesions, relieve pain symptoms and prolong survival to a certain extent;

5. Other methods: such as palliative resection, endoscopic mucosal dissection, etc., but the effect is limited and can only be used as an auxiliary means to help improve clinical symptoms.

All the above treatments must be evaluated by a doctor before implementation. Do not take medication on your own or stop taking medication without authorization. At the same time, you should also pay attention to eating a light and easy-to-digest diet and avoid eating spicy and irritating foods; maintain a good attitude and actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment.
