Does drinking water at night hurt your kidneys?

The human body needs a certain amount of water every day. Studies have found that the human body needs 2500 ml of water every day. Although food, fruits, and even body metabolism produce a certain amount of water every day, we also need to drink plenty of water every day. Many people actually don’t know how to drink water correctly, which causes some problems in their bodies. Although it is not serious, it still needs improvement. So, does drinking water at night hurt your kidneys?

1. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water

You should replenish water regularly on weekdays, otherwise by the time you feel thirsty, your body will be in a state of extreme dehydration. The best practice is to always have a cup of water with you and replenish water every two to three hours, regardless of whether you are thirsty or not.

2. Don’t drink too much water at one time

Some people like to hold a large glass of water and drink a lot at once after sweating a lot. Although it may relieve thirst, it will not only fail to quench thirst well, but also suddenly increase the burden on the heart, cause hiccups or cause abdominal distension.

3. It is best not to drink water one hour before going to bed

Drinking water one hour before going to bed will affect the quality of sleep, making it easy to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, or holding urine for too long during sleep, which will have adverse effects on the bladder.

4. Don’t use beverages instead of boiled water

Beverages contain a relatively high amount of sugar. Drinking too much can easily cause obesity and is also bad for dental health. Boiled water can enter cells to promote the body's metabolism and truly replenish the water needed by the body, which is something that beverages can never replace.

5. Don’t drink water that is too hot or too cold

Summer is here, and it is really enjoyable to drink a glass of ice water when you are sweating profusely. However, when drinking ice water, the sudden coldness of the gastric mucosa will cause the capillaries to contract, which can easily cause gastrointestinal diseases such as diarrhea and gastroenteritis. Too hot water can easily burn the esophagus and is not suitable for drinking. Therefore, doctors point out that drinking warm water is the best and most thirst-quenching way for the body regardless of the season of the year, because warm water is closest to the temperature of the human body and is more easily absorbed by the human body.
