What complications will occur after cervical cancer surgery? How to care after cervical cancer surgery

Cervical cancer is a common gynecological malignancy. Surgery is one of the main treatments for early cervical cancer. Since radical surgery for cervical cancer involves a wide range of injuries, large wounds, and multiple pelvic organs, intraoperative injuries and postoperative complications often occur. In order to improve the surgical effect and reduce complications, taking appropriate prevention and care measures can achieve better results.

If extensive total hysterectomy damages pelvic blood transport and autonomic nerve fibers, varying degrees of bladder detrusor dysfunction may occur after surgery, leading to dysuria, urinary retention, secondary infection, and even pyelitis, ureteral obstruction, and ureteral fistula.

Lymphocele

After total hysterectomy and pelvic lymph node cleaning, poor lymphatic drainage can form retroperitoneal lymphocele. Patients with large cysts have lower abdominal discomfort, ipsilateral lower limb edema, and low back and leg pain.

Precautions

① Early bed massage, moving the lower limbs, and alternately raising the limbs to promote lymphatic return.

② Pay attention to the amount and properties of the pelvic negative pressure drainage fluid, keep the drainage tube unobstructed, and avoid twisting and folding of the drainage tube, which will affect the drainage effect and increase the risk of lymphocele formation.

Nursing measures

① Observe in time. If the patient has swelling, pain and swelling of one or both limbs, a soft mass in the groin, and the body temperature rises to 38°C during infection, it means that lymphocele has formed and timely measures should be taken.

② Raise the affected limb to promote lymphatic return, apply local hot compress with Chinese medicine rhubarb or Glauber's salt, or perform physical heat therapy to help dissipate inflammation.

③ Follow the doctor's advice and actively take anti-inflammatory treatment. You can also take oral Chinese herbal decoctions to promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, soften and disperse nodules.

④ For some larger cysts, timely incision and drainage should be performed, and wound care should be done after drainage.
