What is red blood cell suspension?

Red blood cell suspension is clinically referred to as red suspension. For certain diseases, such as anemia in some people, and ordinary diet conditioning and other methods are ineffective, it is necessary to go to the hospital for a red blood cell suspension examination. This can tell the severity of the anemia and provide help for finding effective treatments in the future. People with acute blood loss can also use suspended red blood cells. Many people don’t know what red blood cell suspension is. Let’s take a closer look below.

What are suspended red blood cells?

Preparation and properties: Suspended red blood cells are defined as the red blood cell component blood prepared by separating most of the plasma from the whole blood collected in the multi-bag under fully closed conditions and adding red blood cell additive solution to the remaining part. Suspended red blood cells are the most widely used red blood cell preparation in clinical practice at home and abroad. They are suitable for most patients who need to supplement red blood cells and improve the oxygen-carrying capacity of their blood. The multi-bag method is generally used to prepare suspended red blood cells.

Highly concentrated red blood cells, with a packed cell volume as high as 0.90, are obtained by removing as much plasma as possible from whole blood. Since most of the original anticoagulant preservative has been removed, the amount of glucose it contains is very small and cannot be preserved, and because red blood cells are very dense, the transfusion rate will be slow, so an appropriate amount of additive fluid must be added to overcome these shortcomings. Currently, adenine-containing additives are often used to dilute concentrated red blood cells, with the packed cell volume reaching 0.5 to 0.65. This type of red blood cells that are diluted by added fluid and highly concentrated red blood cells are called suspended red blood cells.

It should be a suspension of less white blood cells and red blood cells.

Guidance:

Blood transfusion refers to the transfusion of red blood cells, and leukopenia means that these red blood cells contain very few white blood cells.

Correcting severe anemia requires blood transfusion, mainly red blood cell suspension. Leukocyte-reduced red blood cells are specially treated red blood cell suspensions that can avoid transfusion reactions. As for the specific type of red blood cells to be transfused, it needs to be determined based on the clinical disease. Due to blood shortage, try to reduce blood transfusion as much as possible.

It is very likely that it is wrong. It should be "suspended low white blood cell and red blood cell". This is similar to the normal blood transfusion, but this time about 4 bags were transfused. 1840 yuan is not a lot. But if the fee is charged for these 8 units of red blood cells and an additional 1,840 yuan is charged, that would be quite a lot.

Guidance:

Suspended leukocyte-poor red blood cells are the most commonly used blood component. As for whether the fees are appropriate, you can consult the local pricing bureau. The specific charges are different in each place.
