After getting cancer, will I get other cancers again?

If a person has had cancer once, will he or she get other cancers? Will he or she die in the short term after having cancer? This question needs to be analyzed in detail. Generally speaking, people who have had cancer once are likely to get other cancers, but it is necessary to distinguish whether it is a recurrence of cancer or a real recurrence of cancer. This situation is the most common. For example, a patient has breast cancer and has undergone breast-conserving surgery. After a period of time, a tumor develops in the breast again. The most likely cause is a local recurrence of the tumor, or a new tumor appears on the liver. It is also possible that the tumor has metastasized to the liver. Malignant tumors require regular follow-up and monitoring after surgery because of the possibility of recurrence and metastasis. Recurrence and metastasis often occur in the first five years after surgery. If there is no recurrence or metastasis for more than five years, it is generally considered to be cured.

NO.1 New onset of the same tumor

This situation does exist, but it is not common. It is like a person falling into the same river twice. For example, a patient with colon cancer may find a tumor in the rectum after surgery; a patient with breast cancer may find cancer in the left breast and then find cancer in the right breast again after a while. This situation usually means that the patient has a problem with his genetic genes and is prone to getting the same tumor again.

NO.2 A new tumor develops again

This situation does exist. For example, a patient has breast cancer, and after a period of time, she is found to have ovarian cancer. This patient is likely to be a carrier of the BRCA gene mutation, making her prone to breast cancer and ovarian cancer. The famous movie star, Agnes Jolie, carries the cancer-causing gene, so she had her breasts and ovaries removed as a preventive measure.

There are many such hereditary cancer syndromes. There are problems with their genes and they are prone to multiple tumors. Common tumor syndromes include: hereditary breast cancer and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome, etc. Therefore, if a person has cancer once, it is possible to get cancer again. Some people even have a cancer constitution and are prone to multiple tumors.

NO.3 Will I die from cancer in the short term?

Cancer. Everyone is afraid of it and thinks that if you have cancer, you will die. In fact, this view is wrong. Modern medical technology, especially a series of comprehensive therapies such as surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy, and traditional Chinese medicine, has greatly changed the past cancer treatment. The mortality rate of many cancers has dropped from 80% in the past to 20% now.

Actually, there is a little problem with the above description, which is the mortality rate. From a medical perspective, we do not use such a term, but rather the five-year survival rate, which refers to the proportion of people who can survive for five years out of 100. Of course, the larger the base number, the higher the accuracy.

The treatment of many cancers has achieved very good results, such as lung cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, etc. Early lung cancer has a very good treatment effect, and even in the late stage, a large number of people can still be completely cured.
