Why do we need scraping for heatstroke

Why do we need scraping for heatstroke

The weather is hot in the summer. When the outdoor temperature is too high and exceeds the human body temperature, if it is not cooled down in time, heat stroke will occur. In severe cases, it will cause vomiting, fainting, and even shock. However, many people choose scraping to cool down. Scraping is a good way to maintain health. It can dredge the meridians, reduce fire and detoxify, and achieve the effect of cooling down. So where is the best place to scrape for heatstroke?

How scraping works

1. Adjusting Yin and Yang Scraping has a significant effect on adjusting the balance of Yin and Yang in the internal organs. Scraping on the abdomen and back can inhibit the hypermotility of the intestines and restore them to normal; conversely, for those with hypomotility, it can promote their peristalsis to return to normal. This shows that scraping can improve and adjust the functions of internal organs and balance the yin and yang of the internal organs.

2. Gua Sha can promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis by regulating the contraction and relaxation of muscles, so as to regulate the pressure between tissues, promote blood circulation around the scraped tissues, increase tissue blood flow, thereby playing the role of promoting blood circulation, removing blood stasis and promoting new blood, and reducing the symptoms of weakness in the limbs.

3. The scraping therapy for relaxing meridians and unblocking collaterals mainly enhances local blood circulation and increases local tissue temperature. In addition, under the direct stimulation of the scraping board, the pain threshold of local tissue is increased. The third is to use the scraping board to stretch tense or spasmodic muscles, thereby eliminating pain.

Gua Sha Therapy

The treatment method of scraping the patient's body in sequence with a smooth-edged spoon, copper coin or coin is called scraping therapy. Gua Sha is a treatment method deeply favored by the people in our country. After scraping, patients often feel relaxed and comfortable locally or throughout the body, their chest and abdomen feel open, and their symptoms disappear. The method is:

1. The patient should take a comfortable position, fully expose the treatment area, and wash the area with warm water.

2. Use a smooth-edged spoon (or spoon, copper coin, etc.) dipped in sesame oil (canola oil, peanut oil, soybean oil or water) and scrape the area that needs scraping repeatedly in one direction.

3. The order of scraping is generally from top to bottom, or from the middle of the body to both sides, or from inside to outside each time. Do not scrape back and forth. Scrape each area about 20 times each time until dark red spots appear on the skin.

4. The scraping area is usually only on the patient's back or both sides of the neck. Depending on the condition of the disease, scraping can sometimes be performed on both sides of the larynx in front of the neck, the chest, both sides of the spine, both sides of the arms, or the inner side of the knees. You can also choose the appropriate part for scraping according to the condition of the disease.

5. Each part can be scraped to leave 2 to 4 or 4 to 8 "blood marks". Depending on the location, the "blood marks" can be scraped into straight lines or arcs. After scraping, dip your hands in light salt water and pat the scraped area a few times.

6. Use a smaller scraper to perform treatment on acupuncture points. Commonly used acupoints include Zusanli, Tiantu, Quchi and some acupoints on the back. Scraping the acupoints, in addition to the therapeutic effects of scraping itself, can also dredge the meridians, promote qi and blood circulation. This method is suitable for abdominal pain, restlessness, gastrointestinal cold, nausea caused by summer heat, and muscle or body aches caused by sha.

Ji Sha Therapy

Bend the middle finger and index finger into a hook shape, dip them in water, and pinch the skin to cause local bruising. This sha removal therapy that involves pinching the skin to create blood marks is called pinching sha therapy.

The Jiāosha therapy is also known as the Twistingsha therapy, and is commonly known as "Jiu Keda". This method does not require any utensils, just your fingers. The Juesha therapy is flexible and the treatment area can be selected according to the condition of the disease. If you have a headache, fever, fatigue or sickness, you can pinch the acupoints on yourself, so pinching the acupoints is also a very practical self-treatment method.

How to do it:

1. The patient should sit at a desk or lie prone to fully expose the skin to be treated.

2. The operator bends the middle finger and index finger into a hook shape, dips them in cold water, and then uses the sides of the second knuckles of the index and middle fingers to pinch the skin. At this time, a "click" sound is often heard, and the name "juggeda" comes from this. When clamping and pulling, press and twist as you go, then let go quickly. Due to the clamping, pressing and squeezing of external force, the subcutaneous capillaries may be ruptured, causing blood to seep into the tissues and causing local congestion.

3. Generally, pinch and pull the local area about 20 times, until blood marks appear on the skin. If the symptoms are severe, the force of pinching can be increased until red spots form on the skin.

Since the pinching and pulling action has a strong traction force on the skin, it can often cause local and systemic reactions, making the skin at the treatment site flushed and slightly painful; but after the sha is pulled out and local blood stasis appears, the patient's whole body will relax. Note! This method is suitable for the head, face, abdomen, neck, shoulders, back, etc. where the skin tension is not high

Such as upper respiratory tract infection, throat pain, hoarseness, and often skin pulling on the front of the neck. After pinching the local area until it turns red, the patient will feel refreshed in the throat; for headache, you can pinch the temples, or you can also pinch the neck, between the eyebrows, elbows, popliteal fossa, etc.; gastrointestinal dysfunction is mostly caused by pinching the abdomen; for low back pain, you can choose to pinch the most painful area.

These magic weapons passed down by our ancestors are very practical in life, but the process is a bit painful, and some people are not suitable for scraping, so you must consider the actual situation.
