In this colorful society, people's lives are getting better and better, but more diseases are caused. Tongue cancer is also a very common disease. Surgery is a common method to treat tongue cancer. Postoperative care is also very important. It is related to whether the patient can recover as soon as possible. Let's talk about the key points of postoperative care for tongue cancer.

(1) Pay attention to oral care. You can give 2% hydrogen peroxide + saline or furazolidone solution to rinse alternately twice a day, and place the irrigation tube on the healthy side to prevent the wound from bursting.

(2) During postoperative care for tongue cancer, attention should be paid to observing whether the drainage tube is unobstructed to prevent it from falling off, twisting, or leaking. Also, attention should be paid to recording the color, quality, and quantity of the drainage fluid. If there is any abnormality, it should be reported to the doctor in a timely manner.

(3) Pay close attention to observe the changes in vital signs, especially breathing changes, and keep the airway open. Experts say that ultrasonic nebulization inhalation therapy and back patting are beneficial for expectoration of sputum. Pay attention to instructing patients to expectorate effectively.

(4) Patients should be placed in a supine position without a pillow, with the head tilted to the healthy side and the neck immobilized to prevent stretching of the pectoralis major muscle vascular pedicle. Aspiration pneumonia and bedsores should also be prevented after surgery, and the room temperature should be kept between 22 and 25°C.

(5) If chemotherapy or radiotherapy is performed after tongue cancer surgery, it is important to pay attention to regular follow-up visits, ensure high-protein, high-nutrition food, and maintain oral hygiene; at the same time, antibiotics should be taken as prescribed by the doctor to prevent infection, and blood transfusion or albumin should be taken when necessary to enhance resistance.

(6) Postoperative care for tongue cancer should also pay attention to the following: after the wound heals, tongue function exercises should be performed, such as tongue extension, upward curling, lateral extension, downward thrust, and rotation, and speech training should be carried out from simple to complex languages.

The above are some measures for postoperative care of tongue cancer. I hope they will be helpful to you.
