What are the sequelae after radiotherapy for tongue cancer?

1. Mucosal reaction: oral mucosal swelling, erythema, congestion, reduced secretions, dry mouth, slight pain, and slightly less food intake.

2. Local reaction: Dry skin will show itching, pigmentation and peeling, which may produce permanent light brown spots. Wet skin will show eczema and blisters at the irradiated part, which may cause erosion and ulceration in severe cases.

3. Systemic reaction: manifested as a series of functional disorders and imbalances, such as lack of energy, decreased appetite, physical weakness, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, bloating after eating, etc. Mild cases may not require treatment, while severe cases should be treated in time, combined with traditional Chinese medicine to improve the body's immunity.

Some patients with tongue cancer have severe reactions to radiotherapy. Many have poor appetite, swallowing pain, and oral ulcers. Therefore, they should adjust their diet and eat semi-liquid or soft foods, such as nutritious and easily digestible porridge, noodle soup, wonton, etc. Cooking should be delicate and pay attention to color, aroma, and taste. Food should not be too hot. Meat can be chopped into small pieces or stewed. If vegetables and fruits are difficult to swallow, they can be squeezed into juice for drinking.
