Understanding what kind of disease is glioma

Clinical studies have shown that under the fast-paced lifestyle, the incidence of brain glioma is also extending to young people. If you experience nausea, vomiting, or eye problems, you must go to the hospital for examination in time. Glioma is a common disease that occurs in the brain. Let us learn about glioma together.

Gliomas are tumors that occur in the neuroectoderm, so they are also called neuroectodermal tumors or neuroepithelial tumors. Tumors originate from neural interstitial cells, namely glia, ependyma, choroid plexus epithelium, and neural parenchymal cells, namely neurons. Most tumors originate from different types of glia, but based on their histological origins and similar biological characteristics, various tumors that occur in the neuroectoderm are generally called gliomas.

From the perspective of epidemiology: glioma is the most common among various intracranial tumors. Among gliomas, astrocytoma is the most common, followed by glioblastoma multiforme, and ependymoma ranks third. According to statistics from Beijing Xuanwu Hospital and Tianjin Medical College Affiliated Hospital, among 2,573 cases of glioma, males are more common, especially in glioblastoma multiforme and medulloblastoma, males are significantly more than females. Most of them are between 20 and 50 years old, with 30 to 40 years old as the highest peak. In addition, children around 10 years old are also more common, which is another small peak.

The general symptoms include increased intracranial pressure, headache, vomiting, papilledema, changes in visual field, epilepsy, diplopia, cranial enlargement (in childhood) and changes in vital signs.

Treatment methods: At present, the treatments for gliomas at home and abroad are generally surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, X-knife, gamma knife, etc. Above, do you have a little understanding of gliomas?
