What to do if braces are loose

Various situations will be encountered during the process of tooth correction. First of all, while wearing braces, you should pay attention to eating more liquid foods and not eating too hard foods, otherwise it will damage your teeth. If the braces become loose during the correction process, you should see a dentist for correction in time and actively cooperate with the dentist for treatment.

What should you do if your braces are loose? First, you should immediately find your orthodontist to glue the braces back!

Fixed braces, as the name suggests, are braces that cannot be removed by the patient. It is generally composed of three parts: a band, a bracket and an archwire. The band and the bracket together support the orthodontic archwire and transmit the orthodontic force, thereby controlling the movement of teeth.

If the braces become loose or fall off due to external force during the correction process, the correction force will be interrupted, thereby prolonging the treatment. If the teeth are loose for too long, they will shift and the braces will not bond easily.

Here are some things you can do before seeing your doctor:

Deformed archwires may cause damage to the soft tissues of the mouth. Before seeing a doctor, it is recommended that you wrap the end of the archwire with cotton, gauze, wax or chewing gum to make the mouth more comfortable.

If part of the brace is loose, try to remove it slowly and store it in a container to bring to the dentist. However, if the braces or archwires are embedded in the gums, tongue, or cheeks, you need to see a doctor immediately.

Avoid eating hard foods during orthodontic treatment

Improper diet during orthodontic treatment can cause attachments to loosen, so patients should take good care of their teeth and avoid eating hard foods such as bones, crabs, nuts, and large pieces of food. For example, when eating apples, they should be cut into small pieces. In addition, remember to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth after eating to maintain oral hygiene.

There will be many inconveniences during the orthodontic process, but once the treatment begins, the patient should have patience and perseverance, strictly follow the doctor's instructions, and have regular follow-up visits to ensure that the entire treatment process can be completed smoothly.
