What are the problems with thyroid cancer treatment in China

When we Chinese hear about cancer, we will be terrified. Indeed, cancer has brought harm and pain to so many families. There are many types of cancer, and we have never even heard of some of them. However, these viruses are everywhere around us. In recent years, due to environmental pollution and our daily diet, thyroid cancer is the most common cause. What are the problems with the treatment of thyroid cancer in our country?

At present, there is a widespread problem of non-standard surgical treatment of differentiated thyroid in China. Due to the uneven economic development in various parts of China and the lack of standardized training and other related factors, there are large regional differences in treatment levels, and there are also certain differences between hospitals and doctors. It can be summarized into two aspects: excessive surgery for benign thyroid nodules; excessive surgery for benign thyroid nodules. Thyroid nodules are very common in the population. Since the widespread use of B-ultrasound examinations for physical examinations, the detection rate of thyroid nodules has rapidly increased from 4% of the population to 19%, mainly in women and the elderly. Eighty to ninety percent of thyroid nodules are diagnosed as nodular goiter, which is a hyperplastic and degenerative disease of thyroid tissue, not a tumor, and is not an indication for surgery.

Secondly, there are problems in mastering the technology of total thyroidectomy in the treatment of thyroid cancer outside China. The disadvantages of nodular goiter surgery include: permanent surgical scars left on the neck; most nodules will recur; long-term use of thyroxine may cause surgical sequelae; waste of precious medical resources; of course, not all benign thyroid nodules do not require surgery. A few large nodules may be considered for surgery in the following situations. In summary, the vast majority of thyroid nodules are benign and do not require surgery. Only five to ten percent of malignant tumors require surgery. The key to distinguishing benign and malignant thyroid nodules is fine needle aspiration cytology diagnosis. In addition, most thyroid cancers are differentiated thyroid cancers, which develop slowly and have a good therapeutic effect, so there is no need to perform excessive surgical treatment on all thyroid nodules.
