Effects of drugs on pituitary tumors

Effects of drugs on pituitary tumors

In recent years, the incidence of pituitary tumors in my country has shown a clear upward trend. With the increase in the number of patients, the treatment and treatment costs have attracted more and more attention. Many patients only start to pay attention to this disease after they have developed pituitary tumors. There are drug treatments and organic treatments. Let's take a look at the effect of drugs on pituitary tumors?

The pathogenesis of pituitary tumors is a complex multi-step process involving multiple factors, which has not yet been clearly understood. There are two main hypotheses:

One is the mechanism of hypothalamic regulation disorder.

The second is the defective mechanism of pituitary cells themselves.

It is currently believed that the cause of disease originates from the hypothalamus. Under the abnormal regulation of the hypothalamus, it causes hyperpituitarism and hyperplasia to produce adenoma. There are many methods for treating pituitary tumors at present, including drug treatment. Drug treatment of pituitary tumors is widely applicable to the population, generally applicable, fast absorption by the human body, and most of the drugs enter the brain. After taking the drug, prolactin adenoma can be reduced, menstruation and ovulation can be restored, and pathological galactorrhea can also be inhibited, but the drug cannot cure prolactin adenoma at all, and it can continue to increase after drug withdrawal, and symptoms reappear. In addition, pituitary tumor treatment drugs can also alleviate symptoms for growth hormone cell adenoma, but the dosage is large and the efficacy is poor. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, indigestion, dizziness, postural hypotension, headache, nasal congestion and constipation.

There are several types of drug treatments for pituitary tumors:

1. Bromocriptine is a semi-synthetic ergotamine alkaloid that can stimulate the dopamine receptors of pituitary cells, reduce blood prolactin, restore menstruation and ovulation, and inhibit pathological lactation and shrink prolactin cell adenomas. For larger prolactin adenomas, giving bromocriptine before surgery can shrink the tumor and facilitate surgical removal.

2. Pituitary metronocytic cell adenoma can be treated with drugs such as cyproheptadine and aminoglutethimide, which can temporarily relieve symptoms, but it is not effective for everyone and cannot be a cure.
