Is thoracoscopic lung surgery dangerous?

Is thoracoscopic lung surgery dangerous?

Nowadays, many people need to undergo thoracoscopic surgery due to lung problems, such as those caused by smoking and drinking, or previous lung function trauma. If they do not pay attention to the improper nursing fees, however, as this emerging surgery is not understood and recognized by people, there are always some doubts, worrying that thoracoscopic surgery is very dangerous. Let's take a look at what thoracoscopic surgery is like.

Rational understanding

one. Correctly understand thoracoscopic surgery

1. We must realize that video-assisted thoracic surgery is an inevitable result of historical development: in recent years, with the rapid development of electronic and information technologies, humans can now freely control Mars rovers on Earth and have achieved long-distance (hundreds of kilometers) precision strikes in the military; obviously, our traditional thoracic surgery methods, which have remained unchanged for 50 years, are as far behind the times as pilots' visual bombing; society and patients require us, contemporary surgeons standing by the operating bed, to use high-tech means in a timely manner to provide patients with surgical methods that can safely and reliably remove lesions while minimizing trauma; video-assisted thoracic surgery was born in such an environment, and it is an inevitable result of scientific and social development.

2. It is important to recognize the advanced nature of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: small trauma, less pain, good efficacy, fast recovery, and incisions that meet cosmetic requirements are typical manifestations of its advanced nature; it is a representative operation of minimally invasive thoracic surgery, and its clinical application has changed the treatment concepts of some thoracic surgical diseases, especially in redefining the surgical indications, contraindications and surgical approaches for certain diseases. Great progress has been made; in many advanced medical centers at home and abroad, it has accounted for one-third or even more than half of the total number of thoracic surgical operations; its application ratio and scope also reflect, to a certain extent, the technical level of a hospital's thoracic surgery department, because the current standard for measuring the surgical level of a doctor or a department is nothing more than: whether you do better than others or whether you perform operations that others cannot do.

3. We need to objectively evaluate the status of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery: it is the representative of modern surgery, provides a new treatment method for clinical work, and brings vitality to the long-dry field of thoracic surgery. At present, it can be used for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases in thoracic surgery, and has achieved the same therapeutic effect, becoming one of the commonly used surgical methods in thoracic surgery. However, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery cannot completely replace traditional surgery. It is currently mainly suitable for relatively simple chest surgeries. Given that the scope of surgery that doctors with different technical levels can perform varies greatly, its indications are still in the process of further improvement.

In actual work, when performing thoracoscopic surgery, we must follow the principle of gradual progress. We must not do it just for the sake of doing thoracoscopic surgery, and we must always keep in mind that the patient's interests come first. In addition, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is far from the pinnacle of surgical technology. It is only a transitional stage or a bridge between tradition and the future. Just as it is built on the basis of traditional thoracic surgery, it is also the basis for future surgery. In the robotic surgery that has been applied and the more advanced remote-controlled surgery that can be foreseen in the future, thoracoscopy is still one of the important components of the surgical operating system. Without the display and guidance of the thoracoscope, these more advanced surgeries would be out of the question. It can be seen that it is very necessary and urgent for today's thoracic surgeons, especially young doctors, to actively learn and master thoracoscopic surgery techniques as soon as possible.

two. Face thoracoscopic surgery rationally

Faced with such a completely unfamiliar technology and the various difficulties that may be encountered, it is often very confusing - where to start? How to do it? How can we do it well? This requires us to comprehensively consider our personal conditions and face this challenge rationally. Just as success in any career requires specific qualities, being a thoracoscopy surgeon also requires certain professional qualities.

1. You must have solid basic skills: In the past few years, I often encountered some very embarrassing things: a respiratory physician bought a video-assisted thoracoscope and asked me to help perform a lung resection operation; a dean or director selected a resident who had just graduated from undergraduate school to come to my department to learn thoracoscopic surgery and prepare to go back to work. In their imagination, video-assisted thoracoscopy is a technology that anyone can master as long as they are trained, just like fiber bronchoscope or gastroscopy. Little do they know that they cannot understand the thoracic anatomy under open-chest vision. How can doctors who are not capable of open-chest surgery complete the resection or reconstruction of chest lesions under a fluorescent screen? How can they face possible unexpected intraoperative situations such as massive bleeding? How can they have the confidence and courage to explore and carry out difficult and new thoracoscopic surgeries! Therefore, as a thoracoscopic surgeon, the first and necessary condition is to have solid basic skills in open chest surgery and to be a qualified thoracic surgeon who can independently perform routine thoracic surgery.
