Melanoma can be cured if it is controlled early

Melanoma is a common tumor in Caucasians in Europe and America, and its incidence rate ranks fifth among all malignant tumors. However, its incidence rate in China and Asian countries is relatively low, about 1/100,000.

Melanoma originates from melanocytes, which are normally evenly distributed under our skin. If they divide and proliferate excessively and aggregate into clusters, they become melanocytic nevi, which we often call "mole". When this division and proliferation gets out of control, it evolves into melanoma.

The median age of onset of melanoma is about 50 years old. Adults of other age groups can also develop the disease, but it is very rare in minors.

Cancer treatment experts say early melanoma is completely curable

It is entirely possible to achieve "cure" of melanoma through early treatment. This is because melanoma grows horizontally in the skin in the early stages, and metastasis will basically not occur as long as it is expanded and resected and treated with adjuvant therapy.

"When Li Xiangshan told Qin Fen in the movie, that is, when he presented the 'melanoma' on his foot to the audience, it should have been in the early stages of 'melanoma'. It was precisely because of the lack of knowledge in this area that it was very unwise to give up treatment at this time. This is also a misleading of the audience by the movie." said the expert.

In real life, if treatment is abandoned at an early stage, melanoma will slowly enter a vertical growth phase and invade the dermis, where there are capillaries and lymphatic vessels. Melanoma cells may invade blood vessels and lymphatic vessels and cause metastasis. "In the film, it was Li Xiangshan who gave up the correct treatment, which led to the rapid metastasis of melanoma throughout the body."

Tumor treatment experts say that melanoma is not incurable even after it metastasizes

If melanoma metastasizes, is it "incurable"? The answer is no.

Compared with other tumors, melanoma is indeed the most malignant, the fastest progressing, and the least effective treatment. That’s because chemotherapy and radiotherapy for melanoma are basically ineffective, with an overall effectiveness rate of only about 8%.

However, in recent years, a major revolution has taken place in the treatment of melanoma worldwide. New biological immunotherapies have fundamentally changed the status quo of advanced melanoma treatment.
