Adverse reactions to uterine cancer vaccine

The advent of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and its application in the prevention of cervical cancer was once regarded as a milestone victory in the fight against cancer. In 2006, the vaccine was selected as a major clinical research advance by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and one of the top ten medical news in the United States that year.

However, perhaps because people are too optimistic about the preventive effect of the vaccine, they have intentionally or unintentionally ignored some of the problems that may still exist in the vaccine. Recently, some mainstream media in the United States broke the news that serious adverse reactions occurred among HPV vaccine recipients in the country, which attracted great public attention.

The US CDC and FDA monitor the safety of all vaccines through the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). As of June 30, 2008, the system received 9,749 reports of adverse events after HPV vaccination, of which 94% were non-serious and 6% were serious. Non-serious events included syncope, pain at the injection site, headache, nausea and fever, and serious events included death, Guillain-Barré syndrome, thromboembolism, immune system disorders, etc.

Make several preparations before the injection. If you want to go to Hong Kong for vaccination, it is best to do a cervical scraping and HPV screening in the mainland first for reference by Hong Kong doctors; and make an appointment for the vaccination time by phone. The most important thing is to plan the time for 3 vaccinations. After each vaccination, it is best to stay in Hong Kong for one more day so that you can see a doctor in time if adverse reactions occur. People with colds, fevers, allergies to vaccine ingredients and pregnant women should not receive this type of vaccine. And after vaccination, do not get pregnant within six months. If you get pregnant after the injection starts, you should wait until after delivery to continue the injection.
