Is cancer hereditary? We cannot only consider the issue of heredity. In fact, cancer is not contagious, it can only spread. Early evidence of cancer heredity came from epidemiology. Later, it was found that in some families with multiple endocrine tumors, their descendants had a much greater chance of developing the same type of tumor. This further suggests that at least some tumors are directly related to heredity. The onset of cancer is caused by many internal and external factors. External factors include physical factors such as radioactive irradiation, chemical factors such as various carcinogens and cancer promoters, and biological factors such as tumor viruses; internal factors mainly refer to genetic factors, and also include mental factors and immune function. In special cases, external factors may also be the main ones. For example, long-term smokers are much more likely to develop lung cancer than non-smokers. But it is undeniable that genetic factors play a certain major role in the onset of cancer. For example, the incidence of esophageal cancer in Lin County, Henan Province, my country, a high-incidence area of esophageal cancer, is as high as one percent, which may be related to exposure to certain special carcinogens in the local area. However, under the same living conditions, some people develop cancer and some do not, indicating that genetic factors play a role in it.
