Can lung cancer bone metastasis be cured?

Despite great progress in the treatment of lung cancer, such as surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and the advent of new anticancer drugs, the prognosis of lung cancer is still poor. The 5-year survival rate of lung cancer patients receiving treatment is 14%. The high mortality rate of lung cancer is mainly due to the lack of early diagnosis and effective treatment. Even in the early stage, most patients have systemic diseases at the time of initial diagnosis.

Generally speaking, lung cancer bone metastasis means that lung cancer cells have spread and lung cancer has entered the late stage. The difficulty of treatment increases, and most people cannot be cured of lung cancer bone metastasis, but it is not ruled out that a miracle may happen to a small number of people.

Once lung cancer has metastasized, chemotherapy can be performed first. Systemic chemotherapy can control the development of bone metastasis and relieve pain while treating the primary lung lesions. Therefore, it can not only relieve pain, but also kill cancer cells and control their growth. Zoledronic acid is mainly used to treat bone metastasis.

Once lung cancer has metastasized to the bone, local radiotherapy can be performed. Radiotherapy can be divided into several methods, such as 60 cobalt irradiation, deep X-ray machine and linear accelerator. For isolated bone metastases, after the lung lesions are controlled and stabilized by chemotherapy, high-dose, short-course radiotherapy can be given to relieve pain and kill cancer cells.

If bone metastasis occurs in the lungs, targeted therapy can be performed. For patients with multiple bone metastases throughout the body, radiotherapy is not suitable. In this case, radionuclide therapy can be used. Radionuclide can reduce bone destruction and dissolution caused by bone metastasis, eliminate or alleviate the severe pain caused by bone metastasis, and inhibit the development of bone metastasis.
