The cause of skin cancer is not yet fully understood. It may be related to long-term stimulation such as excessive sun exposure, radiation, arsenic, tar derivatives, etc. Burn scars, mucosal leukoplakia, chronic ulcers, long-lasting fistulas, discoid lupus erythematosus, radiation dermatitis and other skin damage can also be secondary to this disease. However, many patients have no obvious cause.
The symptoms of early skin cancer are not characteristic. Generally, patients may show erythematous or papular lesions slightly above the skin surface, often accompanied by scaly desquamation or crust formation on the surface. The symptoms are similar to benign skin diseases such as psoriasis, eczema, and inflammation. As the lesions further develop, certain characteristic signs will appear, such as a shiny, translucent papular nodule with bleeding on the surface and telangiectasia. The symptoms of early skin cancer are very similar to those of some precancerous lesions such as solar keratosis and keratoacanthoma, and are very difficult to distinguish. Solar keratosis has rough erythema that is higher than the skin surface and is covered with scales. After removing the scales, the erythema often has no obvious protrusions.
