Radiotherapy after bone cancer recurrence

Radiotherapy after bone cancer recurrence

Nowadays, many cancers are endangering everyone's health. Although many people are not familiar with bone cancer, if you have this disease, it will pose a great threat to the patient's life and health. Now many bone cancer patients will choose radiotherapy to restore their health. So, do you know about radiotherapy after bone cancer relapse?

Radionuclide therapy is a radiotherapy method different from traditional X-ray radiotherapy. It uses the beta rays emitted by radionuclides to produce a series of ionizing radiation in the diseased tissue. The rays act on tissue cells and transfer part or all of the energy to the diseased tissue. Through the direct and indirect effects of the rays, the structure and properties of the body's biologically active macromolecules are damaged, leading to cell aging and apoptosis. The greater the cell division activity, the stronger the sensitivity to the rays. Therefore, while the rays destroy the diseased tissue, they do not cause or only cause slight damage to normal tissue.

At present, the main radionuclide drugs for the treatment of bone cancer are strontium-89 and samarium-153. Strontium-89 is a radioactive drug similar to calcium ions, which can be selectively absorbed by bone tissue with increased osteoblast activity. Strontium-89 treatment has an all-round effect on various lesions of primary bone cancer and metastatic bone cancer, thereby delaying the appearance of new bone cancer metastases. Strontium-89 also has the advantages of long-term, safety, and simplicity in the treatment of primary and metastatic bone cancer. Samarium-153 is effective in treating pain caused by primary and metastatic bone cancer. A large number of clinical trials have shown that the total effective rate is over 87%. After treatment, bone pain completely disappears in over 32% of patients, and partial relief accounts for over 55%. Radionuclide treatment of bone cancer has strong targeting, safety, and few side effects.

The above is an introduction to radiotherapy for patients with recurrence of bone cancer. I hope these contents can help everyone. I wish you a speedy recovery.
