Symptoms and treatment of brain metastasis of lung cancer

My father was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer last year and was treated with surgery and chemotherapy. Last month, my father suddenly developed a headache, sometimes vomited after eating, and his vision also deteriorated a lot. A few days ago, he underwent a whole-body PETCT and MRI in the hospital and was diagnosed with suspected brain metastasis of lung cancer. What are the symptoms of brain metastasis of lung cancer and how should it be treated?

Lung cancer brain metastasis is a common and serious clinical condition and one of the common reasons for the failure of lung cancer treatment. Common symptoms include headache without cause, vomiting, visual impairment, etc. Headache is the most common symptom. Vomiting often occurs when the headache is severe, and is characterized by projectile vomiting. If the tumor has compressed or invaded the optic nerve, visual impairment will occur. In addition, lung cancer brain metastasis may also cause recurrence, paroxysmal blackouts, cataplexy, impaired consciousness, increased blood pressure, slow pulse, etc. In severe cases, brain herniation may occur and endanger life.

At present, the commonly used method for treating brain metastasis of lung cancer is whole brain irradiation, but it should be noted that after radiotherapy, the irradiated brain tissue will edema, tissue necrosis in the lesion and vascular changes will aggravate the symptoms of increased intracranial pressure, so timely treatment should be carried out to relieve symptoms such as headache and vomiting. If there are multiple lesions, radiotherapy should be combined with chemotherapy as the main method, which is beneficial to brain lesions and takes into account the systemic treatment of lung cancer.
