Thigh nerve pain

There are many nerves in the thigh. Some people will have thigh nerve pain, which is sometimes so painful that it affects their movements. Thigh nerve pain is closely related to sciatica and lumbar disc herniation. You should pay attention to rest, massage and apply hot compresses to the painful area to relieve the pain, keep warm, etc., and the pain will gradually subside.

It is most likely sciatica, which may be related to the waist. It is recommended that you go to the hospital for a lumbar disc CT scan to rule out lumbar disc herniation. The sciatic nerve is the main nerve trunk innervating the lower limbs. Sciatica refers to pain along the sciatic nerve and its distribution area (buttocks, back of thigh, posterolateral calf, and outer side of foot).

This disease is divided into two categories: primary and secondary.

The cause of primary sciatica (sciatica) is unknown and is relatively rare in clinical practice.

Secondary sciatica is caused by compression or irritation of adjacent lesions and is divided into radicular and trunk sciatica, which refers to whether the compression site is on the nerve root or the nerve trunk, respectively. Radicular type is more common, with herniated disc being the most common cause. Other causes include intraspinal tumors, vertebral metastasis, lumbar tuberculosis, lumbar spinal stenosis, etc.; dry type can be caused by sacroiliitis, pelvic tumors, uterine compression during pregnancy, hip arthritis, buttocks trauma, diabetes, etc.

Most cases of sciatica are caused by lesions in nearby structures along the sciatic nerve's course that infringe upon the sciatic nerve. Common causes include lumbar disc herniation caused by trauma, compression from the enlarged uterus in late pregnancy, uterine and adnexitis, inappropriate injection sites in the buttocks muscles, and chemical damage to the nerve caused by injection of irritating drugs into the sciatic nerve trunk. In a small number of patients, the disease may be caused by spinal intraspinal tumors, trauma to the spine, sacroiliac joint, and hip joints, tuberculosis, inflammation, and tumors. The above is called secondary sciatica. There are also a small number of patients who cannot find a clear cause. They often develop the disease after catching a cold or living in a humid environment for a long time. This is called primary sciatica, or sciatica.

Main symptoms

Sciatica is more common in middle-aged and elderly men, and is more common on one side. The onset is sudden, with lower back pain and waist stiffness being felt first. Or a few weeks before the onset of the disease, there is brief pain in the lower limbs when walking and exercising. Later it gradually worsens and develops into severe pain. The pain starts from the lower back, buttocks or hips, and spreads downward along the back of the thigh, popliteal fossa, outer side of the calf and dorsum of the foot. On the basis of persistent pain, there are waves of increasing burning or tingling pain. Worse at night.
