Are there risks in prostate cancer biopsy

Prostate cancer is a common disease in elderly men. The incidence of prostate cancer in my country is on the rise. In recent years, great progress has been made in prostate cancer screening methods, especially the three "magic weapons" for prostate cancer diagnosis, transrectal ultrasound, and PSA testing have been widely used. These developments have greatly improved the level of early diagnosis of prostate cancer. However, these methods can only find patients who may have prostate cancer in the population, and cannot become the final basis for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Pathological evidence must be obtained for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Therefore, it is necessary to obtain the patient's prostate tissue for pathological examination through certain methods. Prostate puncture biopsy is a minimally invasive method to obtain prostate tissue.

If the biopsy pathology report does not report a tumor, this may be good news that is puzzling. Because at least it is not labeled as a tumor, but it will enter a cycle of whether to repeat the puncture. Common prostate cancer pathology reports often follow this diagnosis with a description of the Gleason score, such as Gleason 3+4=7, and some also have data on the tumor ratio. So what does this pathology report mean?
In general, each puncture needle in the pathology report has a pathological diagnosis, and the puncture needle number represents the location of the sample taken by the puncture needle. The more needles reported for the tumor and the more tumor volume involved by each needle, the larger the tumor volume, the wider the range, and the higher the stage.
